It was fun learning more about Janis Joplin, who also attended my alma mater, the University of Texas at Austin. It was also interesting to contrast her with my parents, who are only 7 years older than she would have been, but who conformed much more readily to 1950s Texas standards of behavior. It's easy to forget sometimes that our elders also consist of people who were wild and crazy in their youth (if not for their whole lives)! Anyway, Janis's story was fascinating and sad, and it makes me want to listen to all her music again.

This book was boring. It was predictable and I really wasn't crazy about the writing. For example, the main character is supposed to be beautiful. Well, in every other sentence the author wrote how pretty she was, she is so stunning, she is so gorgeous, she created car accidents because of her beauty....OK I GET IT SHE IS BEAUTIFUL. It was a bit ridiculous!

Everyone in America should read this, and then see the movie Taken.

An intriguing fictional read. However, I just couldn't imagine Laura B as Alice Blackwell! But when it came to George W, Charlie Blackwell hits the mark head on!

my second read from jean cocteau's oeuvre, i am beginning to develop a love/hate relationship with his writing style, punctuating scenes from the novel with poetic metaphors that lend some truth to his character's sensibilites. these 'interruptions' only work when when you have experienced or actually have knowledge of what he is referring to in his metaphors. it makes you more in tune with his character's way of thinking. but i find that most of them are lost on me as this book is dated and what worked then to readers of that period probably has no effect now. in addition, these metaphors tend to break the narrative, making it a bit tiresome for me to get back in the right mind frame to continue where we had left off. all in all, i enjoyed this book of young jacques forestier, who got swept up in a passionate love affair with germaine the chorus girl, that was essentially 'doomed from the start'.

Make Democratic party win by emulating Republican party's tactics. Has it really come to this? Yeah, I guess it has.

Oh. This really took my breath away. I wasn't anything spectacular from P.C. Cast, since House of Night let me down. But this book was so heartbreakingly quaint, beautiful, and wonderful. IT WAS SO FUCKING HEARTBREAKING. I THOUGHT I WAS LET DOWN AT THE END. :C What I loved the most was Dylan and CC. HOLY SHIT. HOLY SHIT. OK. Their true love was described A THOUSAND TIMES BETTER THAN THAT OF LIKE TWILIGHT OR SOME SHIT LIKE THAT. Not saying Twilight is shit. But really. I felt every single heartbeat that CC felt, the sorrow she felt and the joy she experienced with Dylan. One thing that confused me was... Merpeople sex. ROFL. WHERE DO THEY HOLD THEIR ORGANS? Anyways, enough of that. I thought everything was going to end up picture perfect but I was utterly wrong, I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO END HORRIBLY. GOD. AND THEN WHAT IS WORSE. My fucking KOBO reader went out of battery and I had to leave the house . I COULDN'T FINISH THE BOOK. IT WAS SUCH A TERRIBLE CLIFFHANGER. OH MY FUCKING GOD. I was eating lunch, and I was thinking about Dylan and Christine. I WAS ON THE CAR RIDE HOME, I WAS THINKING ABOUT THE LOVERS. I WAS RUNNING UP THE STAIRS TO GO HOME, I WAS PROPELLED BY THE MOTHER FUCKING ANTICIPATION. WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT? I DON'T KNOW IF I LOVE THIS BOOK because I have nothing else to read, or that it really was, a goodread. please read this. tell me how you felt. I FUCKING. LOVED IT.
Three narrators tell their story during the Japanese Occupation of the Philippines through folklore and history. I loved it because it reminds me of the stories that my grandfather used to share, so it brings me close to home.

Hugely interesting/enlightening in terms of content, marred slightly by issues of style.
