What a great novel! I was afraid, very afraid, that I might not like Dime Store Magic. Paige wasn't my favorite character in the least before (reminding me a bit of myself and even more of someone I like even less) but she was a great heroine and the book was so much fun to read. After introducing us to the paranormal community in General in Stolen we enter the witches world, the coven and Paiges parenting-issues, experiencing everything from her point of view. She is a mid-twenty witch and programmer, now responsible for young Savannah (whose books I've finished half an hour ago) who is very powerfull, irresponsible, angsty. She lost her mother and has been kidnapped, held in the same building as Elena was in Stolen. After getting her out of this Paige took her into her home and tries to be as good a mother as she can, but Savannah has had a mother, a dark witch and she has to deal with her reputation as just another dark witch and a Cabal-kid. Anyway, the coven isn't really supportive. On the contrary, Paige has to defend herself and prove she is worth it. 'It' meaning the air she breathes and a place, not to say her place, in the coven. Something that she, more than many others, should have simply inheritated. Her mother was, in the end, the hear of the coven and even if the other witches don't think Paige isn't as good, as insightful etc. they have to have her back. Except they don't. They kind of work against her, making everything even harder and when Savannah's father, the CEO of the Nast-Cabal and a sorcerer (read: enemy) tries to reach out to her, everything becomes even harder. Along the way Paige meets this guy.. Well, I can't say much about him without spoiling everything and I won't. The blurb leads the reader to believe that there isn't much romance, but there is. The romantic interest is a very interesting guy and I haven't read much about guys like him lately. He is unique compared to most of the paranormal heros. Still it isn't easy for Paige and him to be together, because there is the trust-issue and Paige really can't effort to trust the wrong people. Unfortunately he doesn't make it easy to see whether he is one of the good guys or not. In the end I'd even want to read more about him and his family if he and Paige weren't going to work everything out, because jeez, he's cool! My only problem is that no matter how good everything was, it wasn't.. better. I mean, there is nothing I can point out that I didn't like but it lacked the last few things to make me giggle thinking about the book. Bottom line: Read the series. I've finished all the 12 books now and I'm completely in love. The worldbuilding and characterdevelopment is awesome and Armstrongs writing style is exactly what I love in books. Witty, deep|insightful and well-paced. Truth be told, there are better Women of the Otherworld novels, though.

Evidently, she is advising Obama on foreign policy. Maybe I should listen to Oprah...

I expected Heartsight to be a fast read, but its in-depth emotion made me slow down to savor the tugging-the-heartstrings story line. Dan Conway, a blinded Marine, meets Trish Evers and her Down Syndrome child, Bella, and forms a strong bond of friendship. Trish struggles with loss at many levels, especially when her ex-husband sues for custody of their child. The gripping climax at the lighthouse kept me turning pages as well, delivering a satisfying twist. Kudos to Kay Springsteen!

I get why a teenage girl would be intrigued by this book, but I thought it was pretty over the top and unbelievable. Would a policeman really recommend that a girl set up nanny cams to catch her father in the act of molesting her? I don't think so . . .

Another great book from the "Elements of Fiction Writing" series. Learned a lot about creating, well, conflict, action, and suspense. A must-read for any aspiring or established authors who wants to add some punch to their stories.

I like good stories, and Chelsea has plenty. She says herself she has a hard time distinguishing from the lies she tells and her reality, this book must be a great balance of both. She tells you things you don’t want to hear, and things you may not agree with- at least she did for me. The way she tells her stories make you love her nonetheless, and continue to turn pages quicker than before. It is a mindless read, perfect for pool side. Don’t forget your vodka and lemon juice…

I wouldn't say Jackie Collins is a fantastic writer, but the story of Lovers & Players: A Novel was quite engaging! All in all, my recent library trip seems to have garnered terrific results!
