Loved it! Probably the best book in the series. This is definitely not classics material but an engaging read nonetheless. Time travel, historical fiction, romance... It is a guilty pleasure.

I wasn't exactly excited to read this book. Especially since most of the books before seemed like a bit of a chore to read. This book pleasantly surprised me! I absolutely LOVED this book. I had a hard time putting it down. I think Vishous is my favorite brother and Doc Jane was pretty awesome as well. Honestly if there were more books written about Vishous and Doc Jane I would read and devour them all. I found Vishous very intriguing. From the beginning of the book I felt a deeper connection with him than the rest of the brothers. I was a little surprised that Doc Jane fit with Vishous so well because Vishous always seemed a bit hardcore, but Doc Jane took that in stride. I'll admit I cried in parts of the book, but I was very thrilled with the ending. The humor that was scattered throughout the book was wonderful too. If you read the Black Dagger Brotherhood series you definitely need to read this book!

This book doesn't actually deserve a five star rating. It's more of a 4. I rate it 5 because I think it deserves to be read. There are ridiculously long diatribes that take from 30-60 pages when they should only take 5, 10 tops. In them the same thing gets said over and over and over again. And lots of moments that you just have to slog through. The book is far longer than it should be. However, the idea of doing things for yourself and not for others is one that I think is pushed far to little. You SHOULD do things for yourself and because you like to do them, not because other people want you to or tell you it's what is right. Now, most of objectivism I don't agree with, but almost no one does so I'm not worried about anyone getting suckered in. This book also shows the extreme downside of everyone working for everyone else, which is often overlooked by those who champion such causes. People will be people, and until that changes such an idealized society is not possible.

Short stories is the perfect medium for horror stories. It's concise, holds the suspense, and it keeps you wanting for more. The book contains about 10 or so ghost stories mostly from the 1800-early 1900s, which is right my genre (I love old ghost stories). Notable ones include Bram Stroker's "The Judge's House" and my all-time favorite Sheridan LeFanu's "The Monkey's Paw". Since the stories have been written for more than a century, they're very predictable (especially "Monkey's Paw", whose plot has been reworked into other stories countless of times). I guess it's more for the traditional-ghost story fans, those who like curling up to a horror book on a rainy night, the ones that still finds some sort of creepy mystery in a foggy night. If you're looking for more hack-and-saw type of horror, skip this.
