I was not a fan. I vote no for Printz Club. If nothing else, it was very much a girl book. You can judge for yourself when we trade, but I suspect it won't be your favorite either. (By the way, do you like how I pretty much just write straight at you (Nia) when I'm on goodreads? I suspect the only other person who reads these is Rebecca.)

A must read for anyone with kids or those who have any influence on children's lives, or those who are just advocates of getting outside. A brilliant read on how the advent of computers and electronic widgets are preventing kids from growing up and playing outside anymore (looking for frogs, building forts, even going to a playground) and how it is effecting their mental and social development. When asked why he doesn't play outside, one young boy interviewed said, "There are no outlets outside." Shocking and alarming.

realistic representation of dilemas and cases doctors face on a regular basis. Particularly liked frank discussion of errors in medicine.

I really liked this book, even though I went into reading it with low expectations. I think I really connected to the character especially since some of my own thoughts when I was that age were on the page. The only issue I have is that I have now become obsessed with "fish or cheese." I also was not very happy with the ending. Although I related to her she never got over it.

I hated this book too! Although I hated it because I loved it. I just hated Scarlette SOOOOOOOOOOO much that when I got to the middle/end of the book with her being SUCh a freaking bitch, I threw the book against the wall and vowed never to pick it up again. If yo are a drtonger person than I, I highly reccomend it. But if you can't stand seeing good people get punished, read it until you can't stand it, and then throw it against your wall :)

McDermid is one of a growing group of Northern English and Scottish mystery authors, who dub themselves The Murder Squad. Her continuing series features the socially inept but brilliant Dr. Tony Hill and DI Carol Jordan, the English equivalent of a homicide detective. The cases they tackle are more complex and disturbing than almost anything in American crime fiction. McDermid's books have also been made into a series on the BBC, called 'Wire in the Blood,' starring Robson Green and Hermione Norris as Hill and Jordan, respectively. It's rare that a great book (or series) will make an equally compelling TV show or film, but this is a rare exception. Hands down better than any crime drama on US television.

A sweet story. My girls will like this when they tween it. Her relationship with Peder seemed the most believable for me.

Never read anything by this author, and probably won't again. Book was too graphic and confusing. Could have been really good but missed the mark.

This is very strong book that paints a brilliant picture of our society and makes a big impact on the reader. One can learn a lot from it and I think it should be required reading for high school/college literature classes. I myself read it for a class in high school and got really into the symbolism and discussion that came out of reading it as a group. Having said this, and recognizing it as an important work of American literature, i have to (with an ashamed red face) admit that, for me personally, it's not something I all-out loved reading. I do enjoy a challenging read, but ultimately, the voice, writing style, and pacing just aren't up my alley and so it lost some of it's pull for me compared to the other works we read in that class. I'm sure my personal reading preferences do not detract from such a classic though, I mean--it's takes all kinds...that's part of the message right?
