Obviously I enjoy Peretti's books. "House" is my least favorite. Perhaps it was the collaboration with Ted Decker that ruined Peretti's writing. Overall the book was predictable and repetitive.

This is the first book in the Goddess Test series, and after finishing this book I can't wait for the next. Aimee Carter manages to pull you into this world of myth and mystery that I had no choice but to read the whole book in one sitting. From the beginning of the story you can tell that Kate is a strong woman. She has been looking after her dying mother for the last 4 years who has now decided to come back to her home town of Eden to die. Kate is not happy about this, but is willing to try for her mother. We are slowly introduced to a host of other characters such as James, Ava and the charming Henry. In exchange for Henry helping Ava Kate agrees to spend 6 months a year with Henry in his house. I have always enjoyed Greek Myths and this book did not disappoint. It touched on the myths and threw light on them without getting bogged down in details. It also does not disappoint with a great romance story running in parallel with Kate facing tests and avoiding assassination attempts. All of the characters in this story are rich and well rounded. The romance is also believable and very charming. All in all I was swept away with this story and I am looking forward to picking up the next book in the series. Bring it on!!

I'm reading this a little at a time, because I can't read these at night. I'll admit that I'm a bit of a wuss, but these stories are particularly chilling. So far, this is the most amazing collection of ghost stories that I've ever read. Also, the forward that Roald Dahl includes is surprising--I hadn't realized that he was kind of a jerk.

It's by Aaron Raz Link and Hilda Raz. And that's what I love about this book. It's written by Aaron (who used to be Sarah) and his mom, a professor of women's studies. Right now, it's a really powerful book for me and I can gloss over some of the blather because of the important story. --- After reading: probably one of the best books about gender identity I have read. It is funny and it is a story, not a book of theory. Aaron deftly deals with identity politics, therapy, isolation, racism in the queer movement, women-only spaces, male identity, and masculinity with wonderful tone and humor. Hilda's essays are touching and it's nice to see the voice of someone coming to terms with her daughter becoming her son.

Wrenching and yet inspirational book about Sobibor, a Nazi death camp. This was not one of the concentration camps but a death camp, (one of only 4 - along with Treblinka, Belzec and Chelmno.) Here, there were not large numbers of Jews kept alive to work but only a handful from each transport. Just enough prisoners were kept alive to keep the camp running; the vast majority were murdered immediately upon arrival. This is the story of the inmates’ plan, escape, and what happened next. An important book as not much was known of Sobibor before this account. Author interviewed the survivors to get the facts. Shows how even in hellish circumstances, some people can be incredibly brave and resilient.
