Kids with vivid imaginations or was it real? A compelling read.

Absolutely essential reading for anyone who hasn't yet read it. It is a genuinely radicalizing text, serving to undermine myths and put radicals today within a solid historical context, and showing that struggle has a rich history in the US. This book was one half of my radicalizing process. As a new anarchist, starved for perspectives that mirrored my own and ignorant of the depth of anarchist and radical thought, I was groping around in the dark. I can remember, first bitten by the anarchist bug, "googling" "anarchist" every day. I read Crimethinc books because someone told me that anarchists read those books. Entirely ignorant, I was left thinking that my generation was the first to stumble upon anarchism, and that we'd have to create the entire world anew, with nothing in history but misery to look back on. This book changed that in me. I could draw on hundreds of years of struggle against empire, capitalism, and the state. That the soil was rich with the blood of people who struggled for the same thing that I wanted to struggle for. I found out by asking that my family has its own radical history, both of my parents were in SDS, my father went on a Freedom Ride, my grandfather was involved in the 1199 Hospital Workers' strike of 1968, my great grandmother worked in the triangle shirtwaist factory, etc. etc. I know so many folks who were radicalized because they read this book in high school. I only wish I was one of them, that I could have tapped into the bountiful resource of history as a starting point for my radicalism, instead of having it retarded by ignorance of history.

This book was really fun and interesting, yet another book I read because I felt guilty following the authors blog and not reading her books (why does this happen to me on a regular basis) it was really funny and cute ad exactly what i need to cheer me up from all the said books I've been reading lately

** spoiler alert ** This may have been one of my least favorite of the series. Don't get me wrong, I love Sherryl Woods and most of her books - but the heroine in this book just kept getting on my nerves. Maybe I need to take a break from romance novels. I appreciate that there was the classic boy meets girl, boy resists girl, boy grows and overcomes challenges, boy and girl fall in love - but MAN! There were times where I just wanted to tell Alice "when will enough be enough"? Maybe that was the point though - I guess the fact that I felt any emotion at all to it was proof enough that the author did a good job - though I doubt that was her intention, to have me get fed up with Alice. I appreciate the fact that Alice knew what she wanted and was determined to get it, however I felt as though her character lost some points with me because too many times it felt as though she was giving too much and just throwing herself at Patrick. *sigh* maybe I'm just being hard on her.

Wow!!!! This book was amazing! It was actually good and I really liked it... the author was good and the story line was good too. The book was based on a true story, but I bet the book was 10 times better than the actual story... you should read it!

At times, filled with deep emotional turns but the story at some places looks too plane. Unusual ending makes a very good impression..Anyhow 3 stars.!!
I could relate to the authors search for herself in the midst of a broken marriage. I like how she took the non-traditional path to find both spirituality and herself in the process of travel.
