My favorite Barbara Kingsolver book. Beatiful language and very ambitious in its scope.

There's something about this guy. He's such a prick, but there's something about his honesty that is really appealing. Of all of the television chefs out there, I get a sense that Bourdain is the realest of them all. This book is a decent follow up to Kitchen Confidential, but a lot of his chef friends, food critic enemies, and restaurants are new to me, which made it slightly hard to follow.

A very interesting premise of an attempt to steal the declaration of independence and burn in. I felt this novel was often rather uneven and lacked the sustained dramatic tension that was the hallmark of Archer's earlier novels. An interesting fact that I learned from the novel was that the declaration of independence actually has a spelling error, proving that the founding fathers were human after all.

I appreciate the quirky, excellent writing style. I understand why it received a Printz honor. I just couldn't make myself like the character of Vera and wasn't expecting to be so depressed by the end, so only three stars for me.

I don't remember this story really at all compared to the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Although I've never read this book before, the story was familiar to me with all the movies and variations. I'm sad that I waited so long to read it! It was actually refreshing to read it instead of watching it, and see how it was first presented. Touching and funny, Dickens is a wonderful writer.

Finding Mike Resnick's books is a chore, for some reason. When I'm able to, though, I love them: they tend to be rollicking good fun, with larger-than-life characters and stories. The Outpost is a perfect example of his style. A bar on the Inner Frontier attracts the wildest of adventurers, bounty hunters, and con men. They tell the stories of their deeds while the war keeps coming closer. When the war finally arrives, they go out to do their part--and the reader gets to see who actually had what it takes to back up their tall tales. Then, those that survive return to the bar, and tell their stories. Some are close to the truth... and some aren't. It's a fun read from start to finish.

Okay, I am not planning on having kids in the next few years but I thought it might be interesting to read about preventative steps to take in preparing for children. Wow. This book hands-down fascinated me. I am completely horrified by our food industry and am planning to become a vegetarian and somewhat vegan. Had no idea this book would make me want to give up a lot of the things I love but are bad (killing) me. Very informative, intriguing and a simple read. Highly recommend!

I thought there was some really great characterization in this book, and I won't be forgetting the Berglund family any time soon. The book had some interesting thoughts on various freedoms, though a lot of it felt pretty heavy-handed to me. I wasn't as interested in some of the back-stories on the characters (Patty's sports, Richard's music, Walter's environmental ideals) but it was the thoughts and dialog of the characters and some of their little observations about life that made the book compelling.
