The Sally Lockhart Trilogy is wonderfully entertaining. My inner 12 year old loves them. Please don't judge these books by the horrible "romance" type covers. They are smart, funny and adventuresome.

Ariane Emory is a brilliant scientist, and when she dies under mysterious circumstances, her successors create a replicate of Emory and struggle to duplicate her childhood environment as well, so that the replicate will grow up under the same conditions and become the same person; Cyteen is the story of the second Ariane Emory. The characters are complex and their relationships intriguingly tortuous; the plot is intricate (and I feel that I'll probably get more of it on a re-read); and the world is very detailed and convincing. Although it was originally published fifteen years ago, Cherryh's exploration of genetics, environment, and nature vs. nurture continues to resonate and fascinate.

This review was sent to me: I finished Doreen McNicol's, "Rachel Wicks" and I am still amazed! There were so many emotions brought forth by this book that I am surprised I can still think straight! Doreen McNicol's storytelling is phenomenal and it truly feels as if you have been transported to that time in England where workhouses for the poor were prominent, families were split apart, and no one seemed to care. Rachel Wicks is a woman now, having gone to the workhouse at the young age of 6 when her mother could no longer care for her, she was taken from her mother's side and forced to live in an overcrowded attic room with other children only able to see her mother once every two months. It was not long after her mother contracted typhoid fever and died. Suddenly Rachel meets Mr. Blackburne and he makes a rather alarming request of her. She agrees but only for her own reasons. This story does not progress or end as you would expect which is something I found refreshing. There are far too many stories these days that seem to begin and end in the same way, I can honestly say that Doreen's story is completely unique and written in such a way you can feel the emotions of her characters as you take this journey with Rachel. Quiet Bunny's Many Colors is a wonderful book to celebrate the arrival of Spring. Quiet Bunny sees the many colors that make up Spring and then notices that his own color is not as vibrant. Everywhere he sees the yellowest yellow flowers, the bluest blueberries, the greenest green frogs, and much more. Each color, Quiet Bunny tries to become in silly ways such as rolling around in a patch of blueberries. In the end, Quiet Bunny spots an owl who is the same color as he is and realizes that while each color is wonderful on their own, they all are beautiful individually and contribute to how wonderful Spring is. Quiet Bunny is perfect just the color he is. In such a simple children's book many themes can be learned. The most obvious being the diversity of Spring and its arrival. Another theme that may not be as noticeable is learning to love yourself for who you are. Quiet Bunny comes to love his own color in the end, just the way he is. Lisa McCue does an amazing job filling each page with vibrant colors and images that are a treat to look at - each page is a work of art in itself. You will find it impossible to not find this book cute, loving, endearing, and fun. You will also find it hard to not become excited about the arrival of Spring.
