I enjoyed reading Rick's life story and glad that he has more to go. Even when he wasn't a believer early in his life I can see God's hand in there! He had a rough time as a child, his parents home was very dysfunctional. Am glad that he did have the support of loving Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. He is an over achiever, the amount of time he put into honing his craft, and the success he achieved. He is a very inspiring man, and willing to do all that he could to learn to be the very best! I loved that the book included pictures, putting faces to the people that are talked about in the book. Also included are some yummy recipes though out! A must read of any young aspiring chefs! One of the most progressive writers of 20th. century with a wonderful revolutionary look on human and history. لوئیجی پیراندللو یکی از پیشروان نمایش نامه نویسی و ادبیات معاصر جهان معاصر است. در هر صفحه و صحنه از آثار او نگاه و حرف تازه ای ست که هنوز هم پس از هفتاد هشتاد سال، از اهمیت آن کاسته نشده است. متاسفانه بعد از بهمن محصص که چند کار پیرآندلو را در دهه ی چهل به فارسی برگردانده، چندان کار زیادی از او به فارسی در نیامده است. از میان داستان های کوتاهش، بیست داستان با ترجمه ی خانم زهرا خانلری کیا در 1335 توسط بنگاه ترجمه و نشر کتاب منتشر شده، که "خانه ی افسون زده"، "دور"، "زن مرده و زن زنده"، "نمازخانه ی کوچک" و "بیچاره آن مرحوم" از جمله ی آنهاست. چند داستان کوتاهش نیز توسط پ. بهارلو ترجمه و در سال 1341 در کتاب هفته منتشر شده است. داستانی از او توسط احمد گلشیری ترجمه شده و در دو جلد "داستان و نقد داستان" منتشر شده است. نمایش نامه ی "امشب از خود می سازیم" نیز به فارسی برگردانده و اجرا شده است، اما بصورت کتاب، آن را در یاد ندارم.

This is a very readable book, however, due to this book I predict a future of people talking to their dogs and expecting them to understand them perfectly. I rather liked the various racing metaphors and semi-philisophical aspect of the book, but they dragged the protaganist through the mud. I had to keep reading to find out what happened, but at the same rather felt that the author was toying with my emotions. Cheap thrills for him...annoying for me.

Set a weekend aside and luxuriate in it.

A novel about the rise and fall of a Scottish rock bank, told from the perspective of its bass player, Daniel Weir (nickname: Weird). Nothing revelatory, but since, as some of you may know, I’m fascinated by band dynamics and performance personas, there was a lot for me to enjoy in this. Especially since Banks’ opening description of Danny states that he’s tall, with lank, greasy black hair, and a hooked nose—it’s Snape in a band! (Seriously, I could not shake this image for the entire rest of the book.) But oddly, what I think I enjoyed most was the descriptions of Danny (once he’s retired and gone into hiding, pretending to be somebody else) getting drunk and wandering around Glasgow with his buddies. The aimless drunk Scottish banter—that’s what I loved. Perhaps because it seemed the most real?
