The Ultimate series continues to re-envision the history of the Marvel Universe with the story of how the Fantastic Four first meets the Silver Surfer. While in some ways compelling, the reordered Silver Surfer origin - as well as the reworked origin of his new master - reads very false to me, if only for the fact the original origin story of Silver Surfer and his relationship to Galactus is so engrained to me.

I read this book when I was fifteen and have read it about a million times since then. Maeve Binchy has an unbelievable skill at developing characters. I honestly felt like these people were all real people that I could have met if I had been in Ireland in the 1950's. Benny and Eve are amazing characters; probably my two favorite out of all of Binchy's books. I can really relate to Eve and how she wants to defend and care for the important people in her life. What I learned from this book: -True friends are priceless - Don't trust unreasonably good looking and charming men (a theme Binchy covers in several of her books)

in high school, or maybe a little later, i read, and tremendously enjoyed 'american tragedy' by the same author. i picked this up off my sister's bookshelf at home over a vacation, and was so disappointed. i could not get excited for carrie when she prevailed, and i didn't feel sorry for the men she left behind her. i was completely unmoved by this story, and felt it was a runner up to AT. the problem is, i'm not sure if the discrepancy in my level of satisfaction with these two novels has anything to do with my age/development at the two very different times in my life when i read them...

A convicting book that had me setting it down to think more than once. It is challenging for all the right reasons and *should* compel you to re-evaluate how much is enough, to what better end could you be putting your resources, and whether you believe the Gospel should be rescued from the self-absorbed, neighbor-ignoring dungeon to which we have relegated it. This book will challenge you to action -- personal and on behalf of others -- and you will be the better and more joyful for it.

An intriguing story. I read this one in a day. I could imagine this being a movie on the Lifetime channel (or "Wifetime" as my husband calls it).

I read this book because my friend had worked on it at Random House. It was quite good - I probably would rate it "really liked it" if that was an option. But just because of the careful connection and reimagining of Huck Finn, and the serious potential for literary analysis as a result of that, I'll rate it 4 stars. It's basically the story of Pap.

This book has some good writing but I have to give it a bad rating because the author gets very few of his facts right. The boy seems more like he's five years old. If he really was 9 yrs old and the child of a high ranking official he would be in the Hitler Youth. Also even if he wasn't he would have known that the Jews are the enemy because all the Nazi ideals were taught in school. Also this story would not have been possible because even if the Jewish boy could have got to a place away from the guards no one would have been able to go under the fence because it was electrified.

BEASTLY was just one of her curses... OMG. This is possibly the best book I've read this year. I'm going to be looking for a book that can top this. (If that's possible.) Bewitching is a wonderful, amazing, fantastic, mesmerizing tale about fairy tales told wrong. (The title says it all.) It's a must read for everyone! We all know who Kendra Hilferty is. Half of the book is centered on her. How she discovered her powers, her adventures in the gingerbread house, and her bewitching adventures. The next quarter is about her bewitching gone wrong (which had her banned from countries). Though Kendra is always good intentioned, some of her bewitching have backfired (mostly all, lol). Two of her stories is about Doria (a.k.a the Little Mermaid, and an assumed name Dorothy) and King Louis. The other quarter is centered on Emma's misfortunes and happiness. Her story is that of Cinderella, but she is the stepsister. I liked this book more than that of Cinderella herself. I liked Emma. She's smart, compassionate, hard to hate, and too trusting. She's possibly perfect. Not perfect as in flawless, because believe me, she has a lot of flaws. So anyway, I love Kendra's comments after each stories. It was always funny, and kinda defensive. Though her POV wasn't told much, I liked Kendra. In conclusion... What I liked: 1. Kendra's good intentions, and wicked nature. 2. Emma's intelligence and compassion. What I didn't like: 1. Doria's stupidity over Mr. Davis. 2. Emma's love for Warner. God, I hate that boy. /5 stars. I tried hard to not spill any spoilers. It was frustrating, I want nothing more than to tell everyone Kendra and Emma's story!

Well, crap. Apparently young Philip K. Dick was a terrible writer. Even the story this collection is named after was shockingly mediocre, and nothing I've read in this matches the literary subtlety or inherent weirdness of Dick's novels. Oh, well.
