Speaking as someone who has a great many funky dreams, this was a great read. The writing style was a bit hard to get used to though, but after a while the Fragment Writing, as I've started to call it, worked for the book. It's quick, intense, but not *really* that much of a plot, in all honesty, other than the fact that this girl Janie (who is awesome by the way) can go into other people's dreams and how it affects her life (much more than you might think). I'd read it again.

The book stated off a little slow, but then picked up the pace. I am looking forward to the sequel "Lifeblood". A good suggestion for those who liked "Cirque Du Freak"

A very unique and odd look at life that makes it all the more enjoyable! I liked the storyline, but you need to be in the right mood to grasp it. Be prepared, the ending is quite a shocker.

An odd, interesting little memoir of the author's childhood and adolescence. Not very plotty or scintillating, but he lights up his experiences so that you're completely drawn in. Great writing, and observations about growing up that feel profoundly true, i.e.: "I could not resist the clarity of the world in books, the incredibly satisfying way in which life became weighty and accessible. Books were reality. I hadn't made up my own mind about my own life, a vague, dreamy affair, amorphous and dimly perceived, without beginning or end." I stayed in the car in the library parking lot my last day before moving out of town to finish this!

Minimalist writer. Really enjoyed this.

This powerful book tells Greg Mortenson's story of finding and living his passion and mission in life: building schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan as a path to peace. It has adventure, spirit, humanity and a chance and a challenge to join in a hopeful and plausible way to build bridges across cultures in dangerous and ominous times. The book, the possibility, is a gift.

I've already read The Land and Road to Memphis, so I have some familiarity with the author and characters. I read those for my young adult lit class, but had wanted to read this one first, but was unable. I enjoyed this one a lot, much more than Road to Memphis. I can see why so many people say this book was so influential in their youth. I read the beginning quickly, but then got caught up in other reading for a while; however, when I picked it back up, I was able to continue like I never stopped.

This is classified as a biography but actually reads more like historical fiction. My middle-school daughter made the mistake of trying to use this book as a primary reference for a term paper this year. The structure of the biography, the sparsity of reference dates, and Denny's penchant for stating a "fact" about Anne Boleyn then recanting it several pages later, made it a miserable reference book. So much so, that I had to step in and read the book too in order to help her sort it all out. However, Denny's historical fiction background does show through on every single page and that at least makes the book an entertaining read.
