ponderous. important, but ponderous, especially 'cause it's laced with politics

Everybody who tries to be cool tells me that THIS is their favorite Kerouac book, and way better than On The Road... they are idiots. It is good, but not that good.

This was my favorite professor in College, and he is truly a genious. This book is skillfully and beautifully written. It weaves many stories into one book, and one walks from this reading with much knowledge without realizing how one learned so much. It is a true joy to read. I LOVE this book.

I read this twice, the second was with my bookclub. I really did like this much better the second time around. I think his slow, descriptive almost hypnotic writing is one of the many things I love about his writing. This is a small book with a big story. It takes place in pre-sexual revolution England. When there was a way to act and the topic of sex was something that you found in medical books. It is a sad story - when it didn't have to be. How many of the older generations must have found them in the same situation? There are a few older women in our group and they were not shocked at all at the outcome. It is about regret and getting to a certain point in your life, looking back and regretting the outcome. I really love his style of writing. Although Amsterdam and Atonement are my favorities - this is a very good, quick read!

Its a Travel Guide to Twin Peaks! Brilliant! Okay, it wasn't brilliant, just okay, but the idea is brilliant. Enjoyable, helped tide over the nearly SEVEN year wait for Season II to come out on DVD (at long last!). Actually, Summer - this is yours, isn't it?

This was the first comic book I ever read. Also the first. also the best. It's story, with all it's hidden messages and and everything it alluded to made me love the world of comic books. It's story, better than even a lot of novel I've read is one I have to reccomend to everyone.

At first I had a hard time getting into the book, caring about the characters. The author didn't really make them seem alive. Then I realized it was the story of her life and that made it more interesting.

Taylor is the author of several personal reminiscences of country life in Ireland. This book was a somewhat eclectic collection of stories, some humorous and quirky, some feeling very Irish, some more obscure or random in their feeling. Supposedly the author's first book ("To School Through the Fields") in the series was her best, but I enjoyed these stories and the reading of the narrator.

An excellent little book introducing nine major philosophical questions, including the mind-body problem, free will and death. Nagel focuses on clarifying the questions, without muddying the discourse. Periodically he gives his own opinion to the question at hand, but not without urging the reader to come to their own conclusions. He doesn't waste any space bringing in historical references, or citing other philosophers. This book is all about bringing the questions themselves to light. I found the book to be clear and concise, and I'm sure I'll reread it soon, just to solidify the concepts within my own mind. "What Does It All Mean?" is my first exposure to Nagel, and I look forward to reading some of his more esoteric works.

Katherine is dreaming about a young man she has never met. In her dreams, she is so comfortable with him, it is almost like she has known him all her life. Her dreams are so powerful, so vivid and so emotional that she begins to wonder if just maybe, somehow, this young man is real. But Katherine doesn’t know what to believe. Could the young man in her dreams really be real and if so what does that mean? Katherine’s best friend, Taylor, loves the idea that Katherine’s dream man may be real but when Katherine and Taylor find out who she has been dreaming about, will either one of them be able to handle the consequences? In Dreams by J Sterling is an enchanting novel about love and soulmates, one that I found absolutely beautiful. Swept away by the beauty, love, heartbreak and emotion of this story, I was pulled into Katherine’s world from the moment she awoke from her first dream about her mystery man. Throughout reading this novel, there were times when I found myself laughing out loud and other times, where I was reaching for the tissues. I really cared about the characters which was why, at times, I cried. I really felt for them. There were so many things that I loved about this novel. I loved the friendship between Katherine and Taylor - the comfort they both found in their friendship, their loyalty to each other and their strength, both in their friendship and as individuals. I loved the mystery, the romance, the patience of Cooper and the selflessness of Austen and I loved how author, J Sterling, told the story. J Sterling’s writing style allows you to easily understand the characters. I found myself torn just like Katherine. I won’t say why I was torn though, I don’t want to give anything away. This amazing story of unconditional love, soulmates and friendship is a must read, especially for all the romantics out there. A stunning debut novel by J Sterling. 5/5 Review originally posted at Treasured Tales for Young Adults.
