Fun, fresh premise, good pacing, and strong, likable characters. Very solid and entertaining urban fantasy - only thing that really bothered me was the names. The weird, the broken, and the edge?!?! Come on, couldn't you come up with something better?

I haven't read a book I enjoyed this much in a long time!! Every character in this novel had a quality that made them relatable in some type of way. I felt as if I was reading a treaure chest of family secrets. I can not wait to get to my book club meeting tonight!

This is a book that knew where it was going but wasn't sure how it was getting there. When the author figured it out, he should have gone back and seriously edited/rewritten parts of the first half. I enjoyed the story and liked the characters but the inconsistencies in character development, the shifts in voice and the sudden, permanent shift in point of view distracted from my appreciation of the tale.

I wish I could write like Ruth Reichl - I feel so engaged with the pictures she paints and find her stories amazing. I did try a couple of the recipes and found I had to tweek them to my own tastes.....

I can't rate this book. Objectively it is probably two or three stars. But I took advice from an old Patton Oswalt cd and listened to the audiobook, which is quite an enjoyable experience. The hubris and the desperation of the book, coupled with Evans' voice, which makes Tom Waits sound like he never smoked, are so over the top, that I would have to rate it higher than I'm willing to. So I will abstain.
