pervertedly funny.

My rating is probably lower than it should be, because it is actually a very funny book, but I just never got into it. I kept reading it in smaller and smaller chunks as I got further into it, and was actually relieved when I was finally finished.

It took me a little while to get into this one, but once things started happening and the pace picked up a bit, I was absolutely riveted. Couldn't stop reading. I'm so glad there's going to be a second one. I need to know how it all ends!

Definitely a book that comes full circle. I definitely liked it, but found myself skipping over some of Perowne's thoughts toward the end. Really interesting, just a bit repetitive.

This book was recommended to me by a good friend and I thought she was nuts at the time, but wow she was write. The novel is a a silly story, but the writing is great and gets you involved in the characters very quickly. The book is the equivalent of a chick flick and it sucked me in immediately. I could not put the book down and all I wanted to do was read it. I am looking forward to reading the next in the series and happy to find out that Giffin just published another one in this series.

Fascinating look at the origin of epidemic behaviour. The reasons made sense and I really enjoyed his views on mavens, connectors, and salesmen. Great book!

This is one of those books that made me change my thinking to the style of the writer for a few days. Lots of good touches throughout, but parts seemed a bit sensational, tacked on, and unnecessary.
read for my online lit class, but had it in the back of my head to read after seeing Precious. Sapphire doesn't hold back at all. The book was a lot more explicit than the movie (i guess, duh), but had to be in order to really get inside what's going with this girl. I really, really enjoyed it and Sapphire's ability to make the reader connect with this character is phenomenal considering her pretty extraordinary and devastating circumstances.

This was my first read in a year-long journey of Los Angeles-based novels. What a way to start. In Miss Lonelyhearts Nathanael West provides a balance I need between true noir and the Bukowski adored by my early 20s. The Day of the Locusts was my first true LA read (not to be confused with super producer L.A. Reid). The story itself took me through me new town, to places both known and completely unfamiliar. While doing so, West creates a series of love triangles and an exploration of love and obsession in much more real ways than the word "genuine" adequately captures. This all builds to a maddening riot and one of the finest conclusions to a story I have ever experienced, all while capturing the Hollywood fetish required by a true LA novel. To any type-A editors who would actually take the time to message me about such things, all tense changes are intentional.
