A compelling and human look at Marie Antoinette's life. It was a page-turner for me up until about the last 50 pages or so and then I started to get anxious for my next read. It's well worth the time invested.

I like the other book I read by Abu-Jaber a little better (Crescent) but this one had the same charm of the contrast between middle eastern cultures and American-born children of people from this area. It's funny how the littlest things can make a book seem dated. This was published in 1993, and little things like people having discussions in an airport gate just can't happen anymore!

Really enjoyed this but it's mis-leading to say he wrote it inhis 20's. All of the re-vamping was apparently done way later in life. Anyways, this guy knows booze.

This is the 4th in the series and although I'm not madly in love with them I still can't stop reading them so that has to mean I like them. I just can't put my finger on why. The characters are ok, I like the story line (crime/suspense/romance) what's not like. It bizarre how she makes this work but she does.

The author is at his best discussing our inconsistencies and hypocrisies when dealing with animals. The book looks at human animal relations aka anthrozoology. It explores all animals--pets, working animals, lab mice, wild animals. Very thought provoking.
