It started out promising then just draggggged on. I was intrigued by the writing style, but the story eventually just became underwhelming and I was skimming thru the end. I'm sure all the hype over the book didn't help.

As a newly engaged woman without children but looking forward to motherhood I was excited to read this book. A sign that it is good and well written book aside from the author's credentials,is that the author's children wrote a forward about their mother and how loved she made them feel. Both son and daughter knew their mom practiced what she teaches others called intentional parenting. The book is so close to the teachings of my church on parenting with practical advice and examples. Hickem writes a parenting how to with heart and that is highly accessible. Not only does she talk about children's development stages but also the seven intentional motherhood principles as well as how to know when your past is interfering with your ability to parent. Hickem emphasises on knowing or hearing your child, accepting who your child is and to be supportive of their choices. Another major point with intentional parenting is to plan. What you will learn in this book is: how to build companionship and trust, live peacefully in the teen years, maintain your position as parent,develop emotional intelligence and know the difference between control and intention. I look forward to using Hickem's advice when I become a mother. This will be a book I will read agan and again as well as give as a gift in baby showers! It appears a book has finally arrived to use as an instruction book on raising a good, god fearing child that will be a confident happy person!
