Messud has written a strong novel, full of wonderfully captured social commentary. Her characters were so well drawn that I could picture them and I have to say, I wonder if she has an inside line to Brown students, because she seemed to perfectly render a subsection of them in her writing. I found that very impressive. The book is full, visiting everything from adultery to mental illness, to 9/11. The book looses some of its focus about 2/3rds through, in part I think because the story shifts from micro-observation to macro- narrative. That transition made me miss the previously drawn characters, who seem to fade or loose their way a bit, both within the fictional narrative, and in Messud's writing. But as a reader, I also understood it was time for the characters to transition into action and that meant less description of character. Overall, I'm glad I read the book, I enjoyed it, Nessud is a talent.

The first of Reichl's memoirs. See the other two reviews--although this book is actually my favorite of the three.

This was a ton of undying love. Sweet at first, but then crazy and seemed to repeat over and over. I get it you love each other more than any two people could ever love each other. Enough already. Mr Darcy takes a wife was 100 times better and I need to read it again after this one.

I like finishing off with a book I actually like, SECRETS OF THE SHOPPING MALL. In this book two teenagers who are total losers, run away and live in the mall. One of them pretends she works in the mall. I forget what the other one does. Anyway they get in conflicts with a whole teenage gang that also lives in the mall. In the end, they achieve victory and the best part is they KEEP IMPERSONATING THESE PEOPLE (the boy I remember now impersonates an exec's son) AND STAY IN THE MALL.

My goodness, James Patterson did a good job again. I don't know where he dreams up these crazy murderers. Maybe they are really out there! I know I was reading this book one night and someone knocked on my door and I freaked out! Anyway, at least things ended how I wanted them to. I sure wouldn't want to have the job of Alex Cross, I would constantly worry about my family. Good story, I liked it.

This... wasn't quite as I expected it to be. I thought it would be... better. It was a nice story, but not much substance.

Pretty good read, dragged a bit in the later part.

It talks about theatre history in a sociological aspect. The book concentrates on some special theatre practitioners and playwrights for each era. Specially, reading the last part was very useful to me. It talks about individuality and theatre in the modern era(20th century)

I'm jealous of the journalistic niche Evan Wright has carved out for himself. Over a 10-year span at different publications including Hustler and Rolling Stone, he manages to keep getting assigned feature stories on people who have achieved infamy in some way. I know from experience how uncomfortable it can be to interview a murderer... This guy interviews more than one. There are also chapters on porn, taxi-dance halls, Motley Crue, soldiers in Afghanistan, professional skateboarders, anarchists, white supremacists, con artists and a crazy Hollywood filmmaker turned pro-war conservative darling. In the introduction, Wright talks about trying to let the facts speak for themselves, citing the white supremacist chapter (his first feature article) as one that he thought was too forgiving. But reading this, I didn't think he maintained a tone of neutrality, even if he was trying. Some of the things his subjects say are so completely stupid that you can't read their quotes without coming to the conclusion that they are stupid. For example, one of the Motley Crue girlfriends is quoted as saying 75% of American women have fake boobs. And of course, it's REALLY hard to be neutral when your subject has tried to sue you, in the case of Seth Warshavsky. No matter. It was everything I want in a book--informative, depraved and hilarious.

Hikayenin her yerinde her yerde mevcut. Korkunç, kanlı savaşlar, sonuçta büyüleyici, üzücü ve güçlü bir roman olarak eklenenlerin bir parçasıdır.
