I don’t usually seek out novels set in this era, but this was a guilty pleasure. I’m sure it has its share of historical inaccuracies, but the jealousy, ambition, and scandal surrounding Henry VIII’s court make the pages go by quickly. The perspective of Mary, Anne Boleyn’s younger sister, is what makes this book unique and interesting.

I like this book. The first time I read it, I wasn't that amused by it. But since the last time I read it, there were some challenges in my life. I decided to read it again because my friend wanted to discuss it with me. This time, I had a whole new perspective about it. It really opens up your mind to things and makes you think about what sorts of things you want to change in your life. Who to help, where to be, etc. It's a very good book. The content is a little rank, but ignore it and you'll enjoy it. :)

In her ethnography, Consumption Intensified: The Politics of Middle-class Daily Life in Brazil, Maureen O’Dougherty sets out to define and problematize notions of middle-class through an investigation of consumption patterns and practices during a time of economic crisis in Brazil. Inevitably, her ethnography becomes about much more than middle-class consumption practices as she explores transnational flows of goods and capital and how the quest for modernity actively shapes consumption and identity. Ultimately, she examines the complex relationship between discourse and experience, combining participant observation, media analysis, interviews, and archival research to investigate the ways that Brazilian middle-class subjectivity is constantly shifting and shaped not only by economic and political forces, but also by native constructions of class. Ultimately, it could be argued that, “a classe media e um sonho, e ilusao” [the middle class is a dream, it’s an illusion].”

I liked this one. I wasn't sure at first because the description seemed weird to me but another friend on here read this and loved it so I thought I would give it a try and I am glad I did. It is set back in the Victorian period and is about a girl named Gemma. She starts having visions of things that have yet to happen and then they do.. (yes I know sounds weird, but it really isn't) As the story goes along she find out more about what is really happening. Anyhow it is kind of your classic... young heroin, life lesson, good vs. evil battle.. etc.. I really liked the author's writing style and it was nice to read something different. This is the first book in the series, but she wrapped it up nice enough that you wouldn't have to read the others if you didn't want to, although I think I will.

Don't over look this oversized board book as a kiddy adaptation of 'A New Hope'. It's actually filled with some great comedic lines that will entertain both the young AND old. Add to the fact that this isn't just a tiny board book, but a durable oversized (think picture book size)one and I'd find a Star Wars fan hard pressed not to pick this title up!

Overall, what a great YA novel! I enjoyed the story and its very big theme of embracing life even in the face of so much death. I thought every character seemed real, and I loved the weaving in of the various supporting characters.
