This book was much better written than City of Bones. I really enjoyed it as a quick read, and I'm looking forward to the next one.

3.5 stars. Good kinky m/m romance that left me feeling conflicted. I really liked the evolution of Paul and Danny's friendship as it developed into something infinitely darker and more complex. However, I was frustrated by the story seeming to end in midstream. I see that Beyond Eden takes place a number of years later, and perhaps it addresses what happens after this story ends... but I don't want to read an mmf story. I want Paul and Danny to sort things out themselves!

'Lamb' is a hoot! Just so long as you are not completely put off by an "alternative" rendering of what JC was up to during the 30-odd years between the manger and the resurrection.

I don't care if it took Harry Potter to disrobe for people to finally see this masterwork. This is without a doubt my favorite play from one of my favorite playwrights. Like most great works, it conflates several dichotomies without leaning too heavily on any of them. Adolescene v. adulthood? Check. Urban v. Rural? Check. Rationalism v. Romanticism? Check. A teenage boy blinding six horses in a fit of psychosexual mania? Check. There's whispers the London production's coming stateside. If so, I don't care how much it costs, I'll be there. Ever since reading this for a summer research project in 2003 I've wanted to see it produced. Here's hoping.

This is a story that's going to make you think. Think about how much electronics really run and control our lives. The author, M.T. Anderson, went into great depth with the creation of this fantasy world set in futuristic America. I kind of envisioned a slightly Jetsons type world when I was reading everything with their flying cars, levels of housing, city tubing, etc. ha ! The detailing in the characters language, loss of communication, and the world itself are spot on. Imagine a world where you're constantly bombarded with advertisement after advertisement in your head. It's really similar to the Facebook profiling ads that we get sent in present and modern day. They categorize people based on their likes, activities, etc. and bombard them with spending and consuming. The story of the Feed. A world where people no longer know how to carry on a conversation face to a face. A world where m-chatting (texting w/o a phone) despite being face to face is how people carry on a conversation. That is until Titus meets Violet and they get hacked the first night they meet. It's a story of love, adventure, and learning to resist the Feed. Violet was raised without the Feed only to get it later on in life. Violet teaches Titus how to open and expand his mind outside of what the Feed is. To stop looking at the images in his head, and to truly explore and enjoy the world.

I enjoyed this sequel to Beautiful creatures. At times, I had to stop and re-read parts of their conversations because I wasn't sure who was talking, but other than that, it was a captivating read.

This is the kind of book that makes you want to talk about with anyone who will listen. The only slight problem I might have with the book is that it alternates between being about a murderer and being about the building of the Chicago World's Fair. The two tales occur in the same city and of course the reason both are being written about is because the time is conducive to both flourishing. But the halves are so different at times that it is sometimes hard to shift back and forth. I would get so wrapped up in the murderer's tale and then would have to shift back to the other one and vice versa. But in any event, it was a fascinating read and probably would be even more so if I knew my way around Chicago better and could picture the fair better. It is truly amazing how many things and people debuted at this fair.

Don't be put off by the length of this book! The stories within are all pretty short and are organized within a specific structure. You can take your time reading this, setting it down and going back to it for as long as you want. But, USE THE ENDNOTES!! There are a few stories you will fail to catch the drift of without some context. Some of the stories are bawdy, some tragic, and some just lovely. There is something to entertain everyone in Boccaccio's masterpiece.

90'lı yılların ortalarında Ruanda soykırımını ve dünyanın arkasındaki dünya tepkisini (ya da aslında bir yanıt eksikliğini) ayrıntılandıran akıldan çıkmayan kitap. Gourevitch'in dünyanın fark edilmeyen bir bölgesi hakkında mükemmel raporlaması. Zamanla Darfur hakkında benzer kitaplar yazılacak. Aslında sonra.
