I enjoyed this book and found that the peripheries of war could be just as horrible as actually fighting it. Also, the non-delivery of one letter may have a profound affect on the person waiting for just such a letter. Did not care for the ending however which is why it got a 4.

Very enjoyable contemporary shifter story by Juliana Stone. This is the third in the series so you will need to read the first two books in the series otherwise this will be very confusing. There’s a great overall plot story and some great build up before this story so you don’t want to jump in on this story. Julian Castille, the only non-warrior jaguar shifter of his brothers, has just come back from six months in hell. Literally. He is not the same man he was and never will be again. He has a job to do to try and rescue his soul but he was not expecting to run in to fellow jaguar Jaden DaCosta. The two shared a night of passion before Julian realized who she was, the daughter of his enemy. Now these two most work together to save the world, and try to save the love they have for each other. I loved the buildup in the relationship between Julian and Jaden. Jaden knows what she wants, or at least she did three years ago before Julian rejected her. Julian thought he wanted nothing to do with the sexy shifter but he just can’t stay away. A great Star-Crossed-Lovers story with lots of anger, angst, and sexy looks. I can’t wait to see what comes next in the series where we get to see what comes next for the rest of the PATU members.

Someone I know gave up on teaching this book to her students in the urban off-campus program of an affluent Christian college, because it upset them so much. I can't think of a better recommendation, but I'll post a few excerpts as I work through the book. If you're not a person of color, and you live in the US, please at least consider reading this book. I'd love to hear from you if you do, whether you agree with it, find it outrageous, or anything in between.

This book is difficult to read just because the style that it is written in is like the stream of consciousness. But I also liked the style because you are able to see everything the character thinks, feels, etc. about themselves and others. It showed me how much people (as in myself) judge others subconsciously. It helped me to understand people better, but it was just very slow and uneventful (that was the authors purpose, I think, to focus completely on the characters and not on a plot.)

I didn't know what to expect with this manga at all. I knew I'd seen it in stores before but I didn't know the synopsis until I started reading it. This is unexpectedly now one of my all-time favorite mangas. First off, the story is very entertaining and well thought out. I couldn't stop reading for the life of me - it was too compelling. The legend of the Tengu is a new twist on a love story that unfortunately seems to hold some similarities to that of Twilight (both in its portrayal of fatal consequences and sexual abstinence and tension). It is a bit unfortunate that, like most sappy love stories, our main female character is helpless without her supernatural significant other to come and save her, but it is, in the same sense, the perfect indulgent guilty-pleasure. However, the twists keep you guessing, the cliffhangers are intense and there wasn't a moment where I wasn't craving more. Other than Kyo occasionally looking cross-eyed, (even though he's not), the artwork is beautiful. The action scenes aren't necessarily intense, but they are fast paced. The steamy love scenes are a total heartthrob, which makes you wonder just when our leading lady, Misao, will make her decisions. I honestly have to say after reading this one, there are very few mangas that have measured up to this entertainment value for me. The characters and the plot are just too impressively built. The overall series is astounding for a love story and I couldn't be more impressed.

I think this was the slowest read out of the 3 books in the trilogy - I'm not sure why though. This may be because it doesn't have any of the "arena action" in it, and that may be what makes this books so intriguing. I still really enjoyed it and it ended exactly the way I wanted it to.

I really don't know why I haven't read the rest of these comics, as I love this volume. A "what if super-heroes were real" premise, but perhaps the best executed of any I've read. Each issue is a stand alone tale that explore aspects of this world - the weight of "great power / great responsibility", the challenge of reporting super-hero activities, et cetera. Both fantastic and human, an excellent read.

To make this subject matter humurous is quite a feat. I couldn't put this book down, it was highliy entertaining and very interesting. I hope that by the time I die, I can do what is explained in one of the last chapters. It takes a very different and green idea of body disposal that I think could catch on, if only given the chance. Sign me up!
