Yes, the heroine is weak and pitiful, but somehow she doesn't become annoying or frustrating to hear about. Maybe it's because at some point everyone has been a fool for the object of their desire and knowingly overlooked the warnings they would point out to friends. Some favorite quotes: "Our conversation was rife with ironies and I missed them all. One always does when everything is going well." "He got you in the sack by using a word you never heard of?! I have to try that one." "I'm not saying there weren't times I wanted eugene dead, but that was because I loved him. To picture him dead was easier and more convenient than picturing him happy with someone else. And I guess I couldn't stop picturing him." "In lieu of explanation, will you accept acknowledgment?" "I have always had a hard time knowing what to do with my face."

This is a very informative book and has rekindled (pun intended) my pursuit of my higher self and Reiki energy. I liked the Kindle edition so much that I had to order the book. That way I will have all the information even when the electricity is off. No need to recharge a battery of a real live book. :)

I liked it. Though I did not like that Kor's wedding was all but ignored. Except for the fact that they mentioned in the end that he had married and was in his wife's land now. I am kind of excited that it seems like she might write more of the verse. I still say The Storm was the best. Rydan is still my favorite brother and Arora is still my favorite wife. I'll probably re-read their story the most. I'm still going to re-read the rest, The Song, The Cat, The Storm, and The Flame. But It will be in between reading my other books.

Another win by Scott. SO far, I think Unwritten Rule is my fav, but this was close. I like that she does good tension, while still keeping the story/dialogue/actions real.

Det. Max Mingus and his partner, Joe Liston are assigned to investigate the circumstances surrounding a body found in Miami's Primate Park. They think it's a routine case until a partially digested tarot card is found in the man's stomach. The tarot card is The King of Swords. It's after the Mariel Boatlifr in 1980 when Castro expelled 125,000 people from Cuba, many were the most vicious criminals. Miami is strife with drugs, murders and superstitions. Solomon Boukman runs an organization selling drugs, prostitution and extortion. He uses intimidation and Haitian black magic to control the members of his organization. One of Solomon's employees is a pimp and petty criminal named Carmen. His mother is a fortune teller Eva Desamourn. Max spots Carmen attempting to recruit a young woman to work for him by posing as a photographer. His goal is to turn her into a prostitute. Max roughs Carmen up and tells him to stay away from the girl. Carmen's mother sees the marks on Carmen and through looking into the future she can see that this policeman will be attempting to find and destroy Boukman. There is a court sceen where a major drug dealer is on trial and something happens (without giving a plot spoiler). This has to do with voodoo and Max and Joe are assigned to the case. It seems normal until Solomon asks Eva to read his fortune. When Solomon cuts the tarot card she sees something planning against Solomon. The King of Swords comes up and this can represent a valuable ally or a fearsome enemy, depending on when it comes up in the reading. Stone tells a terrific tale. This should be considered as one of the best thrillers of the year. With the emphasis on voodoo, the manner in which Boukman can change his looks, his followers having a religious or tribal connection and finally the magic potions that can almost make their victims zombies, I see an influence of John Connolly. It feels like Connolly's "Traveling Man" or Caleb Kyle have returned to cause more mayhem. I recommend this to Connolly fans or to anyone enjoying the mix of superstitution and mystery. Highly recommended!

It's been years since I have read this, but it is undoubtably a beautiful book and it has stayed in my head all this time. Reading some reviews of it on BN.com is odd because people are saying that it gave them faith and made them believe in something about life after death. I am, always have been and I suspect, always will be an athiest. Reading this book and believing more about the afterlife is as ridiculous as reading... let's say another Book and basing your life on it. All in all, it is a beautiful love story and it will make you cry, and it will be worth it.

When I first began reading this book, I didn't know what to think. It was very different from the types of books I usually choose; however, once I got beyond the first couple of chapters, I couldn't put it down. The story is about a man's journey, but it goes far beyond his physical journey.

Sonny's Salvation (Good-time Boys) by Carol Lynne This is a prequel to the real story. Sonny is a gay cowboy in a small town where everyone hardly accepts him cause he is born there and cause his brother is the town sheriff. Worse, he has two twin brothers, both gay, and also the sheriff has some doubt about his sexuality... Sonny has worked for FBI and has a passion for bad guy. Better if they are tall, broad shoulder and biker type. And when he sees Garron, the new bartender of his favourite bar and brother of his neighbour, he knows he is the man for him. And Garron agrees with him. When things become interesting, the book is at the end: on the preview of the second enstallment you can read that Sonny and Garron will be the main characters also of this second book. So in so few pages, I can't have a whole impression of the story, but I can say that I like very much Garron's character, so protective with Sonny even in the small things and so open and hot about his passion. About the fact that four brothers are all gay and meet two brothers (Garron and Jeb) also both gay... ouch, if I want to find a man, please let me know where is this small town, cause I will leave it out of my journey, but if you want to read something light and sexy, all right, you have your book. Garron's Gift (Good-time Boys) by Carol Lynne The sequel of Sonny's Salvation (which was really only an introduction to the real story), Garron's Gift is another enstalment in the Good-time Boys series. Garron and Sonny are living together since a month when Sonny asks Garron to "marry" him. True, not a real marriage, but a commitment cerimony holds in the town's pub, where everyone can see what happens. But Sonny doesn't find what he wants, instead he finds a person who shots him in the street in front of the pub. While Garron and Rawley, Sonny's brother and town's sheriff, try to find who has shot Sonny, Sonny has to learn as to live with a permanent disability, which prevents him to have a live he was used to. And Rawley's feelings for Jeb, Garron's brother, becomes even stronger and Ryker and Ranger, Sonny and Rawley's twins brothers have something to hide to all the town, but Ranger seems to far interested on the pub's waitress, and Nate, the PI and Garron's friends, who came from the big city to help, has a not so hidden interest in Rio, the bodyguard Garron has hired to help resolve the case... So? Have you had enough hints to understand that Carol Lynne has mixed some very interesting characters and manages to write a story that has not a real end but is, above all, truly enjoyable? Every story I read by Carol Lynne I notice she is growing more confident in master her fantasy and writing skills. And these two continuing series she is writing for Total-E-Bound (Good-time Boys and Campus Cravings) are becoming more interesting every enstalment. If you have read Sonny's Salvation and don't find it worthy, give a try to Garron's Gift: you will understand that Sonny's Salvation is only an appetizer to the real story. Rawley's Redemption (Good-time Boys) by Carol Lynne The third book on the Good-time Boys is the story of Rawley, Sonny's brother, and Jeb, Garron's brother. Rawley has lost his job as Sheriff after causing too trouble to Lionel, the major suspect in the shooting of his brother Sonny. Loosing his job could be not a bad thing if allows Rawley to openly live with his lover Jeb. And so they start their relationship and in the meanwhile Rawley continues to investigate on Lionel, with the help of all his brothers, but also of Nate and Rio. And Nate and Rio, with also Ryan, Rio's lover, steal the scene to Rawley and Jeb. I have no problem to admit that I have sometime skipped in advance to see if I will have something more on the threesome. So I'm waiting to read their story in All Play & No Work, the first in the Cattle Valley series, even if I will be a good girl and read it only after having finished the last in the Good-time Boys series, Twin Temptations. About the main characters, Rawley is an interesting character. He loves Jeb, no doubt, but he is still acting the role of the straight man who doesn't admit to be gay. He behaves like he thinks he has to do a "real" man, an Alpha man, trying to overprotect his lover and taking away decision from him. Jeb is a saint: when he is pissed off, he sleeps on it and goes up early in the morning and works off the hungry, and then sits down and listen to his man and to his excuse. He knows that, during the day, his man will think on what he has done and will return home with the tail between his legs. Clever man. Rawley's Redemption is an enjoyable book which flows smoothly. http://www.amazon.com/dp/190659032X/?...

This is really the best road-trip atlas for this part of the world. The only downside: the book is really poorly bound with just staples holding it together. I've had bakersfield fall out about 4 times. This would seem like no loss, but unfortunately the Carrizo Plain fell out with it. I've owned about 4 of these and for 20 dollars, you'd think they could at least buy some better binding glue. The actual content gets 5 stars, though.
The story progresses slowly at first (and may seem a bit boring) but once a reader grips the essents of intricately construed world of Everlost and its residents the telling becomes head-dizzing with amaizing adventures with every passing chapter.
