Received as a GoodReads giveaway. I have mixed feelings about this book. Very interesting at times, but the writing is pretty uneven. Not surprisingly, I was most entertained by her descriptions of nature and her surroundings in her adjustment to full-time life at her country home. Other times, the narrative is hard to follow. The first chapter was a fractured mess, and I almost gave up at that point. The story improved from there, although with ups and downs, but I wonder how many readers bail out before the second chapter.

I think I slightly prefer E.J. Su's cleaner style artwork in 'Infiltration' to Don Figueroa's grittier artwork in this volume. But it suits the darker story well. I didn't find the story nearly as captivating. And there were so many characters I didn't know. I might have appreciated it more if I'd read all the earlier comics first (like from the 80s). I actually kinda missed the human characters introduced in Infiltration.

This is one of the two most thoughtful and persuasive books I've read (along with Slaves, Women, and Homosexuals by Webb) on the issues surrounding the role of women in ministry. Sumner is an ideal writer to speak to both sides of this debate. She is an egalatarian, but openly disagrees with some of the common interpretations and conclusions. Her exegesis is very thoughtful, and the autobiographical way in which she writes is very compelling. Especially noteworthy is her take on 1 Timothy 2, and on "headship" as a picture rather than as a definition. This is a very honest wrestling with the issues. Highly recommended!

A compassionate look into expat living in Burma, along with an interesting dynamic of stay-at-home artist dad. Totally charming, but not really cohesive enough to leave a lasting impression.

A Fantastic book. I really enjoyed The Kite Runner and I was a little apprehensive about reading this one, but it did not disappoint. It is very similar to The Kite Runner, as you are taken through the recent (70's-present) turmoil of Afghanistan and it's civil unrest through the eyes of a child growing into adulthood. This time, you witness it through the eyes of two remarkable female characters, who's lives become intertwined through the story.I would certainly recommend this book to everyone, but the subject matter might be too intense for teens and most certainly for kids. Note: If you are a victim of domestic violence, or have experience with it, you might want take a deep breath before reading this book. It can get quite graphic and might his a little too close to home.

Good if your into half baked under developed characters and plot. Such potential wasted.

Spoiled might be cotton candy fluff, but I LOVE cotton candy! It's one of the best reasons to go to the fair, right? (Other reason being boys, roller coasters, to hang with your friends, all the awesome junk food, and, if you're lucky, lots of animals too.) Molly is a midwestern girl who finds out, through her mother's dying confession, that her father is one of the most famous male actors in the world, Brick Berlin. Brooke Berlin is Brick's spoiled, blonde, ambitious daughter who loves shopping and hates coming home to her huge, silent house. Molly has to leave behind her childhood sweetheart, best friend, and everything she's ever known, and Brooke has to make room for a new sister when she doesn't get enough attention herself from her busy, famous, Crackberry addict father. Brooke and Molly's different perspectives, needs and mistakes create sibling warfare that might be a little tiny bit predictable, and sometimes cliche if I have to be honest about it, but it still made a great read. I felt Molly and Brooke were both real, loving, hurt, and genuinely good, if flawed, characters I enjoyed. Their conflict came about because of their circumstances and feelings regarding those circumstances that they based their actions on, but not because either was an irredeemable person. You end up being able to sympathize with and like both. If you grew up loving Sweet Valley High and other YA literature, this is definitely fun reading, and better than most in it's genre. Brick is a wonderful character, as is Max and Teddy. I'm now cheering for Max to snag Jake, and I definitely think Arugula should get a lot more airtime. I loved her SAT inspired sentences. Hell, I hope for more of them all! I wouldn't look to this book for heavy, symbolic reading, but the language in it is far superior to most YA (used some of my favorite SAT words in both the text and through Arugula). Spoiled is the perfect summer beach fare, and I definitely am looking forward to a sequel. Thanks Fug Girls! Love, a devoted member of Fug Nation.
