Something tells me this story was originally much longer than it's current length. It just feels very, very edited. Very scraped clean. like all the toppings have been picked off my meat lover's combo leaving only the cheese. And cheese pizza is fine, but that meat lover's combo is divine. I just wanted a little more. It seemed like details came too fast and thin and then we were on to something else. Great, well-executed plot, the pacing was spot on, I just wanted more details, more character development, more setting info. That's all.

C.S. is so creative. This is a very unique and interesting book about space travel. It seems a little hokey at times, but this can be excused because of when it was written. I sometimes get a little bogged down by Lewis' tendency to over-justify everything he writes (even in a fictional narrative). I enjoyed this, but it certainly wasn't "Narnia", and liked many of his other writings better.

Yeah. It's a book about a cattle drive. Sort of like Moby Dick is a book about a whale. First, let's get the length out of the way. I don't read long books. Yet this book was compulsively readable, even difficult to put down. Moreso, this book is worth it. It literally changed my definition of friendship. It made me think about what it means to be a friend. McMurtry has a gift for dialogue. His characters speak like real people, only better. But his real gift is for place. Whether it's modern West Texas in books like The Last Picture Show or the frontier west in Lonesome Dove, you always know where you are in his books. And this book brings you to this place, in this special time, better than anything else I've ever read.
