Das Tal der Angst war die letzte Geschichte um Sherlock Holmes, die mir noch gefehlt hatte. Sie gehört zu den 4 Romanen über Holmes, zusätzlich zu den 56 Kurzgeschichten. Das Buch war - würde ich sagen - eher untypisch angelegt, denn der Mittelteil schildert die vorangegangenen Ereignisse zu dem Fall, in dem Holmes ermittelt. Und somit unser Ermittler-Duo Holmes und Watson zu Beginn und am Ende des Buches auftauchen. Nichtsdesttrotz ist der Fall sehr spannend geschrieben und aufgebaut, reizvoll gestaltet und interessant und flüssig zu lesen. Die Geschichte beginnt mit dem Fall des Mordes an einem Mr. Douglas. Holmes und Watson finden einige merkwürdige Umstände an diesem Fall und machen sich in gewohnter Art an ihre Arbeit. Und Holmes wittert seinn Erzfein Moriarty. Der andere Teil des Buches beschäftigt sich sowohl mit dem Opfer und als auch dem Mörder des Falles und deren (gemeinsame) Hintergründe. Das Tal der Angst ist nicht meine Lieblingsgeschichte von Doyle rund um Holmes, aber sie ist sehr spannend aufgebaut und definitiv lesenswert.

In the middle of all of the conflict, Holly meets her neighbor,Wyatt, who wins her heart. When Hannah eventually returns and wants her son, Holly has some big decisions to make. I found this book on sale and decided to give it a try. I know everyone rolls their eyes at romance novels, and this is definitely a romance novel, but admit it, ladies, we all read them every now and then. This one had some unexpected plot lines that I found a little surprising. It's not typical for romance novels to delve into dark subjects, like taking care of an infant when you're high on painkillers, but the author manages to address the subject of addiction without becoming too dark. The characters, especially Wyatt, were very typical for the genre, but it was still a good book with just the right amount of heartache that makes you keep turning the pages to find out what happens next. The ending was happy, with a touch of bitter-sweetness. On a personal note, I like reading books set in a place that I know well, like Austin. I gave it 3 stars.

Deep, but light. I probably should've read one of his other books before this one, since it's kinda morbid starting from the end. It's pretty bleak in places, but these are bleak days for American politics, regardless of what side you're on. The tone was almost like a blog.

A big part of what makes this a great read is the way Ishiguro deftly presents the reader with the same dilemma as its characters--the only way to understand his world is to experience it. The characters do this by growing from children to adults, and the reader does it by continuing to turn more pages. The answers lead to more questions right up to the end, and both characters and readers are in for some startling surprises right up to the end. Great read.

I heard warnings about the third book in the Hunger Games series that made me lower my expectations. Turns out it wasn't needed. The finale was as intense, action-packed and unsparingly dark as the first two, with ever-present danger and ever-escalating stakes. Katniss still rocks; one of the more complex and intriguing heroines in recent fiction. And Suzanne Collins's stark, unsentimental style whips along from one harrowing scene to the next, an expert cinematic storyteller. Highly recommended.
