I found it hard to get through this one, for some reason.

This was in my pile of unread books for quite a while. Admittedly, it was the release of the film that finally got me to pick it up, as there's only so long one can avoid trailers. I really enjoyed it. It took me some time to get used to the way it was written, but once I did, I found the book difficult to put down. It is extremely atmospheric, and has a sense of eeriness all the way through. On finishing it, I felt somewhat uneasy in my surroundings.

Only Atwood I've read but really enjoyed it. Writing is excellent with smart plot structures and branches of stories that all challenge you to stick to it and come out sighing for more. (thanks hh, finally, i read it)

This was pretty good. I'd give it a solid 3 1/2 stars.

Very Long and boring. The end of the book was not worth the struggle to get through.

Chekhov’s characters, both in his fictions and his plays are people deeply in pain and disasters, but their hands are not long enough to change their fate or the world around themselves. The last statement of Chekhov’s plays describes almost the whole piece: The Doctor: The fact is, Konstantin Gavrilitch has shot himself. (Sea-Gull). Firs: Life has slipped by as though, I hadn’t lived. I lie down a bit … there is no strength in you, nothing left you, all gone! Ech! I’m good for nothing (Cherry Orchard). Olga, If we only knew, if we only knew. (Three sisters) Sonya; We shall rest) Uncle Vanja( سه خواهر 1900، حماسه ی تراژیک بی حمیتی و بی عملی ست.

Interesting story. Some parts better realized than others. Suffers in the portrayal of the main character and in the conclusion of the story. And yet, worth reading.

Another historical fiction for me...and another time period/setting that I knew little about. I enjoyed it. It was a good surprise since I randomly picked it up at a rummage sale for a quarter.
