Not bad, but not great. Good plot, but I've never really enjoyed Orson Scott Card and this didn't change my mind

I personally loved the book Romeo and Juliet because reading the famous quotes in the play gave me a better sense of what the quote was actually saying. Although our class had to read the play, I have always wanted to read romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare has fascinated me since I knew who he was. Shakespeare can create any situation where you want to kill someone one moment and cry another moment later. I believe the more we go into the present the less we remember the past. By reading this book i realized we can't forget the authors that gave authors we read now inspiration. It made us realize that an author like William Shakespeare is not sappy but passionate. This is why I liked this play.

I really don't know where to start with this book except to say the stories of these women saddens me. Their lives would unfortunately resonate with many women in the world today. Not so much the life of prostitution, but tales of last resorts. The story brings together four women from Africa to the life of prostitution in the city of Antwerp. The story does not focus on the fact that the women are prostitutes but it gives insight into the circumstances that led them to this lifestyle. You have lack of opportunity, molestation, naivety and promiscuity, craving for love, and low self-esteem. It also shows their resilience and the fact that they too have dreams, which may unfortunately never be realized. Often times we don’t think of what may have brought a person into a certain situation or lifestyle. We judge, especially when you live in a land of “opportunity”, thinking they choose to be in that circumstance. Though we all have free will, we don’t all have the strength, will, and opportunity to live free. This book, though fiction, just further opens my eyes to things I would never really think twice about being so desensitized to what goes on in the world. You never know a person’s story.

Meh.
** spoiler alert ** This was a reading requirement this year for senior AP English. Although I can't say I completely disliked it, I didn't completely like it either. It was just ok. Compared to some of the other Shakespeare works I've read, it was honestly nothing too special. The characters were fairly well developed, but the occurences in the play were so frustrating. Desdemona having to die for absolutely no true reason and Othello's actions, as well as awful Iago's heartless actions, were just crazy and unbelievable. Mostly frustrating, though. I guess when you're reading Shakespeare you sort of just have to expect craziness and awful deaths and senselessness of the characters involved. I liked the way the story played out- other than the end- and Iago's trickery was interesting in parts, but I found it a little dull that the whole play took place in what seemed like a pretty non-interesting setting. With Hamlet and other works of Shakespeare, either there's a lot of action and fights or there's an interesting setting. This play didn't have much of either. Although this review sounds negative for the most part, I did like the play enough to rate it 2.5 stars of 5 for the bits of poignancy and wittiness it did have.

Sandra Cisneros writes prose like it's poetry. I loved reading the short vignettes and seeing splashes of life on Mango Street.

This series is completely insane in all the best ways. I don't just mean it's wacky, though it is. Cable & Deadpool gets at the essential fucked-up-edness of the whole superhero idea as well as anything I've ever seen in a 'mainstream' comic.
