Bones of Faerie contains a very interesting premise. It manages to be post-apocalyptic and yet also very explicitly deals with the fey. The magic set up is solid and the world built is interesting. However, as a whole, the plot seems fairly cliché. There were no real surprises - the lessons learned about supposedly terrifying magic were predictable, the mother's relationship with Faerie was predictable, what happened between the narrator and Matthew was predictable. An enjoyable read, for the premise, if nothing else, but nothing amazing.

** spoiler alert ** I really want to give this book a higher rating just because I liked "Passion" so much. However, this one just wasn't as good. Many times I found myself confused about references to characters and felt I needed to refer back to "Passion" to keep the story straight. I still don't understand what Sarah's problem with her mother is but maybe that will be resolved in the next book?

A good government conspiracy is always fun. This one was well written and kept my attention to the end. It is perhaps a little improbable. There is one villain that enjoys killing a little more than seems necessary. I could have done without his sadistic pleasures. In all other ways, I enjoyed the book.

I just re-read this book after probably a decade. Luckily, I had forgotten enough of the details that it kept the suspense high and the pace fast. This book is like the Da Vinci Code - a great thriller that may not be the deepest book you've ever read. Like candy (or crack), not broccoli. I recommend it! :)
