A Prayer for Owen Meany is my absolute favorite book of all time. This novel tells the story of a friendship between Johnny Wheelright, a boy without a father, and Owen Meany, a little person with an unusual voice. Owen believes that his life has a purpose, and that he has been called by God. Johnny and Owen grow up together, sharing adventures and learning life lessons along the way. This novel is entertaining and uplifting, and the characters are charming, though realistically imperfect. While reading this book, I guarantee that you will laugh out loud at some points and that your eyes will fill with tears at others. John Irving's use of symbolism is excellent, and the novel has many different levels of meaning. I highly recommend A Prayer for Owen Meany to everyone who likes to read. It's over 500 pages long, but you'll be sad when it's over. PS I have a copy, so ask if you'd like to borrow it!

This was a strange book. I kept reading thinking that it would all tie up neatly in the end, and it did...sorta...but still it was so strange. I only gave it 2 stars as I honestly can't decide if I liked this book or not. I do know that I will avoid any G.P. Taylor books in the future. The story lacked "depth". It was a rambling tale with new, strange creatures added and detracted from the story all the way through. Each time I picked it up I literally had to go to the last chapter read and read a couple of pages to remind myself of what was going on. I guess it just wasn't my type of book.

I found the cynicism to be over-the-top and the general feeling to be arrogant and dismissive. Wallace’s playful nature came jumping back in Up, Simba, an essay from the John McCain 2000 campaign trail. I guess I really prefer his fiction.

In the past two years I've started reading the works of Jane Austen. I had seen the K. Knightley movie adaptation and loved it. After seeing the movie I decided to read a version of the story from Darcy's point of view which is why I chose to read Darcy's Story. There are many many retellings and sequels to Pride and Prejudice, but I didn't want one that will eventually get into what happens to the Darcy's happily or not so happily ever after. This book is simply Pride and Prejudice with Darcy being the lead and I thought it was great to get inside his mind more and look into his actions and think of why he reacted in certain ways. Sure the novel probably uses Austen's original lines, who cares? In my opinion if the author didn't then the book wouldn't feel very Austen and I probably wouldn't want to read it. I just wanted to read Jane Austen's novel , but inside Darcy's head.

Not sure how to explain this - but I was bothered when reading this book. I understand that this is based on real story, with real people. But I don't really feel like I can identify with these people, and nor with their plights - with maybe an exception of one person, whose story is more a quite contemplation. I don't think that the author did a good job in fleshing them out - and having the story presented in 2-5 pages of "act", the constantly having to switch focus from person point of view to another (and for every short time) is really a barrier to relating to any of the character. And at the end, maybe I am also disappointed at these people. This is not to say that I think the leaders of the church is justified in closing the church, but I kept wanting to find these parishioners to realize that what makes them Catholic is more than just a building - even if that building contains your life history.

Beastly is a modern Beauty and the Beast. The book was not as good as I thought it would be, and was very close to the orginal. Kyle, the main character, changes so much thoughout the book! But, I still enjoyed him. My favorite character was the "witch" in the book. There are a few twists, but all in all its a very cute read
