Kind of ponderous, but Follett is a master of the massively sweeping historical novel.

A good book to constantly review. It talks a lot about the adab of learning and the respect that is due to teachers and how to even go about asking questions. Definitely a required read for those pursuing sacred knowledge.

I hate books like this and The Devil Wears Prada. Would you really stay in a job if it were THAT bad?

How to Lie with Statistics, by Darrell Huff - 1 and ½ stars; a short, technical book describing how very easily one can be misled with statistics. While some excellent points are made, the writing style from the 1950s was dated, and the "example after example" format became tedious. Probably was a useful read, though. Obviously, to be read for profit, not pleasure. Carl Sagan would’ve appreciated the "healthy skepticism" the book helps developing.

A quick, entertaining read.

Excellent book on why we as humans were and still are born to run! It helped me think about why I have never really enjoyed running and that maybe I could in the future. McDougall's style was a bit off-putting here and there. He jumped all over the place telling mini histories about this runner or this one and sometimes I couldn't even remember where we were at when he finally got back to the story. And his summary of evolution wasn't the most scientific but he got by. But overall I really enjoyed it because it made me think about running in a whole new light, and one that I want to try again. He really met some beautiful and highly talented people and he is not sure whether the running made them so awesome or they're awesome because they run...but I'd like to give it a try too!

This was such a sweet book, and absolutely fascinating the culture in Gion at the time before and after WWII. As someone with ADHD who typically gets distracted with slower books, this book kept me entranced and I absolutely adored the writing style and metaphors used to help the reader along in understanding what she was experiencing. One of my favorite writing tenants is "don't tell the reader, show the reader." I most certainly feel like I was shown a slice of her life, and it was extraordinary. I am SUCH a lover of reading books and then IMMEDIATELY seeing the movies after the fact. So I guess this means MOVIE NIGHT! <3

Interesting tale of events that took place in biblical times. Well written you do have to go back to the family tree quite a bit to remember who is married to whom and their children's names.

I read this long, long ago--- practically wore out the university library copy. It's a brilliant book, a key work for anyone interested in what design really means, and in adapting structure to environment. This is one of those books you want to pass on, to make sure that others read. So--- read it, look around at small-scale and supposedly sustainable designs worldwide, then read it again.
