This guy uses really bizarre metaphors, and the fact that I can't remember any off the top of my head says a lot. Overall, this really felt to me like something a person would turn in at an introductory fiction writing course. I would say, "nice job writing a whole novel, the story is definitely readable and interesting." I kind of expected more from this.

Most likely one of the worst books I've ever read. The dialogue is poor. The writing is atrocious. One of the primary characters comes across as just absolutely stupid - yet he's supposed to be a genius and assists in making the actual time machine. There are a ridiculous amount of holes in the story. It's simply a religious diatribe dressed up as sci-fi. I've no problem with the religious aspect. But I do think that some people would consider it almost blasphemy how some of the disciples are portrayed as being slow-witted. Credit to the author for a very original idea. Boos to the author for not being able to write the story well.

A near perfect mix of police procedural and urban fantasy with just enough of each to keep the story fresh and entertaining. Good solid characters, nice simple world building, and a good voice that's funny and thrilling. If you're going through Dresden withdrawal, check out Midnight Riot. If you like urban fantasy (of the magical detective persuasion) but you don't like Jim Butcher, I think you'll love Ben Aaronvitch.

** spoiler alert ** (Im a spoiler(and 'spoiler' is just an understatement)!!..Beware) A Half mermaid and Half human.It isnt a normal life for seventeen year-old lily..especially when mermaids mate for life and she has a crush on Brody(dream guy).One unexpected kiss with her arch-enemy,Quice, changes everything..him also(into her mermate/merman). My opinion: I hate reading in this girl's perspective.Shes soo gooey-eyed for Brody and all anger-releasing when with Quince.Its kinda obvious she doesnt know what she wants and shes shallow and self-absorbed.When im reading a book in someone's perspective i would like them to be at least a little smart and not all blind-headed like Lily.BUT..at the end im like finnally!She actually does have a smart brain after all. Ending: Lily and Quince together on land as a couple. Characters: Lily Sanderson: princess of the undersea kingdom of Thalassinia,17 yr-old,her mom is human,blond hair,half human..half mermaid,green and gold fin(as a mermaid),asks brody to the dance(he declines nicely saying he wants freedom for awhile),tricked by Quince and goes to the library for Brody only to find Quince there kissing her(it was dark so she didnt know it was him at first),goes to Seaview high,freakles across nose,in the news-team,swim-team manager,kind-of long nose,pale skin,eyes are too big,has a tattoo(like every other mermaid/merman that was born under the sea) with a lime green kelp flower(to match her scales),has frizzy blond curl-hair when human,goes as a pirate wench to the dance(cause Quince said Brody will be dressed as a pirate),green eyes,meets Quince at the beach to explain whats happening to him and for him to explain why the kiss,goes back to the kingdom with Quince to undo what he did by showing him to the royal court(aka her dad),has to make Quince breathless for him to breathe the water in(he didnt want to at first so she had to force him),gives Quince the tour of the kingdom(was) but had to stay with her dad,has to share her room in the kingdom with Dosinia,when she cried underwater her eyes turn gold,makes up a excuse for the bond by saying she and Quince are dating,does the challenge,makes a sand-dollar necklace for Quince on test1,smells like lime and coconut,hides with Quince in the blue-hole on the island when fishermen came(result: them coming up with a plan and suceeding..Plan: Lily using her powers to make it fog and her going into the sea flashing her fin so she can trick them away),tells shannen the truth on the day she was going to tell brody,knew she couldnt trust Brody with the truth so she swiped his memory for that moment from his mind when he overheard,does the separation(was to nice to take away Quince's life),returns to the sea for good but later on goes back to seaview high cause she misses Quince,Quince's girlfriend. Mr.Sanderson: king of the undersea kingdom of Thalassinia,merman,lives in the kingdom under water,has a tattoo(like every other mermaid/merman that was born under the sea) with a royal blue kelp flower(to match his scales),always shoo away any merman from the kingdom that wants Lily(b/c they always beg for her),looks regal,graying hair trimmed short,wasnt even upset when he met Quince for the first time thinking Quince is Lily's mermate(he actually hugs Quince),when about to do the separation he says he just cant(b/c he knows she doesnt know what she wants)..but gives Lily an opportunity to prove to him she doesnt need to be bonded,walks in on Quince and Lily kissing on the island and announcing the test are over,gives Quince one more week to convince Lily what she wants. Mrs.Sanderson: human,blond curls(not frizzy),always at the beach or pool,never bonded with sanderson but was in love with him,died by a car accident with a drunk driver who walked away. Quince Fletcher: Lily's enemy,always calls Lily 'princess'(which is ironic since she is one),likes Lily,Lily's neighbor,trys to comfort Lily when she cries at school when Brody declined her inv. to the dance(result: school bell ringing and him and her hiding in a bathroom stall),Caribbean blue eyes,blond eyebrows,builds motorcycles,tan, strong face,nicely formed chest,has a part-time job at the lumberyard, yummy dark blond hair,square jaw line,full lips,tricks Lily and kisses her(result: him turning into a merman/Lily's mermate),kisses Lily again(saying its his last breath and he wants to enjoy it) before learning how to aquarespire,is Lily's first kiss,learns how to swim by Lily,kiss #3 with Lily is in front of courtney and her groupies(to enforce the whole 'dating' thing),suggested Lily tell Shannen the truth,does the challenge,likes Doe but not like-like(shes just a kid to him),made a sandcastle as a gift for test1,smells like mint toothpaste,kiss #4 with Lily is right after the fishermen got tricked away,says Lily is too good for Brody and him,when brody finds out about Lily's secret Quince sence the fear in Lily through the bond and beats Brody up,does the separation,Lily's boyfriend. Mrs.Fletcher: single mother,lives with Quince,has a factory job. Brody Bennett: Lily's crush,human,curving lips that would make Cupid proud,alwaysspread in an I’m-the-king-of-the-world kind of smile,lusciously curly hair..the color of Hershey’s Extra Dark,does swimming,pale golden brown eyes,ladies man,in the news-team,going stag(alone) to the dance(reason: after him and courtney he wants to taste 'freedom'),dressed as a pirate,owns a Camaro,senior,seems jealous of Quince(b/c of his relationship with Lily),thinks Lily shouldnt be spending time on Quince b/c hes a loser,overheard Lily telling Shannen the truth and got brainwashed by Lily(he lost his memorie of what her overheard and saw). Courtney: Brody's ex(dated him for 2 whole years),cheerleader,hates Brody. Tiffany: courtney's friend. Shannen: Lily's bestfriend,on the valedictorian track,human,has dark-brown hair,human,dressed up as a mermaid for the dance,mad at Lily b/c lily didnt tell her the truth but forgives her eventually. Mrs. Ferraro: likes Lily as a student,art teacher. Aunt Rachel: lives with Lily since Lily's mom died,Lily's aunt,has a pottery job,knows everything about mermaids/mermans/mermates/the kindom undersea,Lily's mom's sister,green eyes. Prithi: Aunt Rachel's cat. Capheira: Thalassinia's ancient ancestor,Poseidon’s sea nymph ,granted mermaid/merman powers. Dosinia: Lily's cousin,having her sixteenth birthday in the kingdom,mermaid,brat,hateful,blue eyes,caramelblond hair, hot pink and purple fins, full glossy lips, and eyes that couldhypnotize a boy in under twenty seconds,gorgeous,when she crys underwater her eyes turn pink,gives Quince a tour instead of Lily,friends with Quince(was found holding hands and laughing with him when return from the tour), helps Quince with the first test in the challenge, Kitt and Nevis: Lily's cousin, were (still are) total nightmares who put spider crabs in people's beds and jellyfish in sandwiches,in the next book she tries to steal the royal trident and use it to get revenge to the humans(since she is in the royal family) and gets bannished from the kingdom to live with aunt rachel,her parents died by humans(thats why she was trying to take revenge on them). Peri: mermaid,swims up coast every thursday(day in human world which is friday in the sea) to meet Lily,knows everything about Lily more than anyone,has a tattoo(like every other mermaid/merman that was born under the sea) with a copper kelp flower(to match her scales), brunette,long..silky chestnut hair that flows in elegant waves down her back(even as human),lives just outside the royal complex with her window facing Lily's,gray-green eyes,younger brother was killed by man-of-wars(jellyfish) fight and now shes terrified of them,helps Lily with the first test in the challenge. Mrs. Wentletrap: nice like a saint,Peri's mom,lives right outside the royal complex. Cid: royal guard outside the palace,nearly ninety,like family to the royal family. Margarite: the palace housekeeper,palace gossip queen. Graysby: merman,royal guard inside the palace. Grouper: merman,royal guard inside the palace. Barney: merman,royal guard outside the palace. Mangrove: Mr.Sanderson's royal secretary. Miss Bailey: who is always ultra perky,tennis coach,. Coach Pittman: whois the complete opposite of perky,one of the baseball coach. Tang: hostess at The Hideaway under the sea,blue hair. Calliope: is the Thalassinian bond facilitator/mermate couples counselor,has the power to deny separation,. Facts: -When a mermaid/merman kisses a human..they turn into the creature of the sea and become the kisser's mermate. -Every mermaid/merman born under the sea has a tattoo of waves in a circle surrounding a kelp flower the color of their scale. -Terrapeds: human. -Coquinas: shells(to humans) but they're alive,live under the sand,is the reason for the ripples of the waves. -Mermaids/mermans have the ability to ulter a memory of a human if nessesary. -Aquarespire: breathing water. -The only way to undo the bond is to go see the court..but you only have little time before the bond turns big and it is irreversible. -Mermaids have an innate navigational sense. -Bubbles and Baubles: shop under the sea(Lily's fav.),they sell the most adorable shell jewelry andyummy all-natural soaps. -Mariana Trench: the merworld equivalent of Siberiansalt mines. -Sea anemones: a specialstingless variety cultivated by the royal seascape artist exclusively for thepalace gardens,don’t have a scent but are soft. -Wakemaker: like a golf cart but water powered. -When a mermaid/merman cries underwater their eyes just turn the color of their scale. -Bonding is like marriage. -Surgeonfish: distant relatives of those fish that eat scumout of aquariums. -Severing a human from the bond is a permanent thing.Will be immune to all mermaids.It means once a human have a separation with the mermaid/merman..they cant bond anymore(tht means if they kiss a mermaid/merman(including their old mermate) there will be no bond. -The Challenge: an archaic three-test trial to prove irreconcilability.The Challenge is actually to send the couple to a deserted island for two days with only themselves with each other and only have a few visits from family/friends for company. -According to Thalassinian law you must prove due diligence in yourrelationship before you can declare for a separation. -Three of the test The Challenge made Quince and Peri do- 1)make a handmade gift for the other while thinking about the other..2)say 3 things you like about the other person while looking each other in the eye..part 2 is to tell them what you would change about them..3)-Quince and Lily didnt do test 3.
