This book details the history of military and intelligence research and development activities carried out in the Nevada desert. That might sound like dull reading, but it was really good. There were a few parts that were slow going, but most of the book was really easy reading. The book seemed very well researched, so I'm guessing that it was a lot harder to write than it was to read. The level of research behind the book actually has me a little worried about the final chapter. I'm not going to spoil it, except to say that I really hope she is wrong about some of the things she suggests at the end of the book.

On its surface, this book is just a modern horror story. Jude Coyne is a rock star a la Marilyn Manson (though older) who has been through a lot of women and burned a lot of bridges. When he buys a ghost through an online auction, he thinks he's just getting a curiosity, but it turns out to be the real thing--a malevolent spirit foisted on him by the angry family of a former girlfriend (who committed suicide after being dumped by Jude). It sounds like an idiotic book, and I was even embarrassed to be seen waiting for the train holding the big shiny library hardback with its garden-variety spoooooky dust jacket design. But I brought it home and read it in one sitting, from about 5pm to 11pm. So you be the judge. Overall, great story, well-written.

Present-day story of a Nigerian girl and her family. After living in a wealthy home with an abusive father for 16 years, she finally comes out of her shell when she goes to live with her loving aunt and cousins. Interesting read for the look into another culture and country, its people and land.
