I was excited about reading this, but in the end I was unable to finish it. I suppose I expected something a little more similar to Twain's style in the treatment of Finn's story. The story is dark, but there is certainly room for humor. The language, too just seemed too high brow in many places for the story of Pap Finn. It was well written, but I could not get past my own expectations.

I really enjoyed this book! I could relate to the time period because, like the author, I was a teen in the 1980's. I could also relate to the author's strong feelings about women's rights. However, that is where our common ground ends. I can't imagine what it is like to grow up with war encroaching upon my neighborhood and a fundamentalist government taking over my country. For sharing her experiences, I thank Ms. Satrapi. Everyone should read this book. It is filled with lessons on being true to yourself, speaking up for what is right, and realizing the cost of freedom. P.S. I really love her parents and her grandmother. Their advice is priceless. I want to hug each of them.
