zadie smith is funny when you least expect it and takes on the immigrant story in splintered and multicultural London in an entirely fresh way. a really smart book that never stops asking questions. note: a little tough to get into and get used to her style...but worth it once you commit!

My infusion nurse lent it to me, and I finally got to it in my TBR pile. I guess I didn't hate it. I thought the story was interesting enough to keep going....but the writing style got to me. Short paragraphs with sentences that are supposed to be Full of Meaning...but to me, they didn't really make sense. In conclusion I should become a writer.

What a neat funny book. I loved it, a few reviews I read after finishing it, said they didn't like Sara... I couldn't understand why? The characters were all neat,with light dialogue, and with it being Sara's story she was the main character. Ok so she's in your face mouthy and a no S**t girl.....Just what an up and coming Alpha Male needs! ~*~*~*~*~*~~*~**~~*~*~* Sara could see through the glass window as four more bikes pulled up outside the shop. Miki turned to Casey, “Are these men men or chicks dressed as men?” Sara closed her eyes and Angelina sighed. Miki broke into a grin, “I’m just askin’.” What walked through the shop door three minutes later, though, were clearly “men men.” Chapter two. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~* Zach had caught her scent as soon as he’d gotten out of the pickup truck the Pack brought with them just for hauling stuff around in. He’d followed it to the side of the shop, but never expected to find her lathering up some pit bull. Shamelessly, in fact. Who’s my good boy? Was she kidding? Hell, he could be her good boy. Her very good boy. Or her very bad one. Chapter five. ~ ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~* Zach crouched down beside Sara and wrapped the blanket around her. “Zach, I’m so cold.” She barely got that out, her teeth were chattering so hard. “Don’t worry, baby, it’s normal. It’s your first change. It’s to be expected.” Sara still broke into a grin. “My first change? You mean I’ve popped my change-cherry?” Zach looked at her and started laughing, “Yeah, I guess you could say that. If you’re tacky enough to say that.” Chapter thirteen. ~~*~*~*~*~*~* Very light hearted humor and a good story,Hope the rest of the series is a s good.

Really liked both the hero and heroine, and the love scenes are absolutely scorching. Great dialogue and excellent characterization of all the main characters in the book. For the first half of the book the attraction between the H/h didn't *feel* very strong to me, but after the first love scene that was not a difficulty any more ;-) Also glad to have read this one because it gives a lot of background for the other 3 books in this series, which I'm reading next (can't wait for Munroe's story).

3½ out of 5 stars The story takes place mainly in a yarn shop called "Walker and Daughter" in Manhattan, NY; which turns out into a knitting club as well every Friday night. :) The book reveals the life of several women all of them in different age and pretty much different stages in life. They all gather around the knitting table every Friday night where they discuss at first ordinary matters like cooking and the secrets of knitting.. but step by step, their personal stories and "worries" take over in those gatherings. Each of them has to face and conquer new challenges in order to find happiness and harmony again. They will also find out who their real friends are, when they most need them... This is NOT a chick-lit book!!! It is a lot more serious and deep that it can even test your emotions! I didn't really like the style of writing in this book. I wish it was somehow more natural and without a one or two-word sentences...
