The Courtship of Princess Leia was a book I have wanted to read for some time now. Naturally it lured me in as I read further and further to reach the Han and Leia bits, however the lack thereof was what ultimately lead to the book's partial disappointment. Though Isolder, prince of Hapes, was necessary to the development of the storyline, Wolverton (author) thought it necessary to include characters such as Teneniel Djo and other Amazonian-like witches of the planet Dathomir that added too much to the storyline and seemed to distract the main point of courting Princess Leia. With the introduction of these new characters as well as the inclusion of familiar faces such as Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, and the always sought out droids, Threepio and Artoo, it played out nicely, which is what I believe Wolverton had intended.

Scattered passages of genuine excitement aren't enough to elevate this book to the greatness of the first installment, let alone surpass it. While the ending is neat enough, it's not enough to make me think any differently that the bulk of what I had read was a chore.

If you haven't read Giussani, this is NOT the place to begin to understand the charism of Communion and Liberation (CL). Giussani founded CL, a movement within the Catholic Church in 1954, and this book is the conclusion of a trilogy that begins with Faith (vol 1) and Hope (vol 2). Reading this book throws the newcomer into the maelstrom just as it's reaching maximum speed; furthermore, the entire "Is It Possible" trilogy is a lightly edited, *translated* transcript of Giussani's talks with Memores Domini, members of CL who live in the world but have taken vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. Memores are essentially non-ordained monks and plain-clothes nuns with jobs, living communally in one-sex households and dedicated to Christ. If you still want to learn about CL and Giussani, this is a great time to pick up "The Religious Sense," a core book in the CL canon that starts from first principles. CL "Schools of Community" around the world are taking up "The Religious Sense" this winter, and you can get in step.

First off, Alaska is a character in the story; no one is looking for a large northern US state. This is one of those young adult prep-school books with charming characters and pranks. But it's different - it takes place in Alabama, not New England, some of the characters are poor(!), and one of them is non-white(!). So, it's already different, even before anything happens. And then there is Plot which makes it totally unlike those other cutesy prep school books. I like this book.
