A real page turner again from the couple. It is very easy to read but still great in its tension building around finding out ' Who did it..'....I am not sure why but I do love a good thriller-detective and I guess I will always have a weakness for this genre...great holiday reading or inmy case during baby' s nap time....

With budget deficits and the national debt in the news all the time, I thought I'd do a little reading to get caught up. The book starts at the beginning of the country and follow the national debt through the years, explaining its ups and downs and offering mini bios along the way. It helped put the debt into perspective for me. It also made me a little depressed. This book was published in 1997, and the author ends the book on an optimistic note, but many of the things he warns about are happening right now, this month, this week, and it's worrisome, to say the least. After reading this, I'm more concerned about the budget deficit than the national debt because the problems are more immediate. I wonder if we'll ever elect a politician gutsy enough to tackle these problems head on. I kind of don't think so. Nevertheless, it's a readable book, and I think I'll look into some of his other more recent books.

I've only read a few short stories here, but they are extremely well-written and thoughtful stories. Along with some of the essays she has written, these stories become even more interesting. They do not take long to read, are unpredictable, and they hit me hard emotionally.

First of all, thank you Wendy for telling me to read this book, (and Independence Day), before reading Lay of the Land. It is all the life story of one average man, this first one set in the 80s, in NJ. I guess it wasn't dated at the time it was written but now reads like history, when young men seemed middle aged. Though I wouldn't want to be friends with Frank Bascombe, this is a story of an ordinary man, divorced but still in love with his wife and children, floundering, written with intelligence and complexity and I'm looking forward to the others.

The famous story of Don Quixote, the delusionary knight. One of the earliest novels, it's a highly challenging read in any language. I've heard the original is much funnier in Spanish.

This book is beautifully written and compelling. I definitely recommend it. My only problem is that Greene wasn't entirely forthcoming about her role in the events of the book--she was married to one of the lawyers. She completely wrote herself OUT Of the book. I think that revealing her own perspective might have given the book more depth. I loved this book, though. It complicates our textbook understandings of the Civil Rights movement and its consequences.
