I finished it finally! Ok, I was not expecting to like this book, especially after I got to the middle but it turned out to be pretty good. I only gave it 4 stars because the middle dragged a bit but I understand that Richelle Mead had to build up the series just like she did for Vampire Academy. (I love the 1st one but it seriously moved slow at a lot of points.) ***SPOILERS*** Okie doke, SO Sydney is completely different from Rose which made it really hard on me to want to continue reading. I love Rose-she is by far the best heroine that I have ever read and will probably never like a character as much as her. Sydney is not like Rose. Not even in the slightest. Sydney is an Alchemist, as you find out from the former books, but in this series you do find out more about what she does. I was always curious to know more about her but after I read it, I kind of didn't care...at first. She is interesting because she uses her smarts instead of physical violence however she is clueless to a lot of things around her-social interaction, the bad guy in her group, boys..etc. I hate bring up this damn book but if you got annoyed with Bella from Twilight then you probably will be slightly annoyed with Sydney. Moving on to Jill. Oh Jill...I was NOT a fan of hers when she was introduced in VA and was pretty ticked off to find out that she was the other Dragomir. (Seriously almost stopped reading the book) so needless to say that I was not excited to have Jill be the main damsel in distress. I thought she would be more like Lissa, who did nothing but whine in my opinion, but Jill surprised me...A LOT! She stood up for herself quite often and is more easy going and interesting than Lissa. And let me tell you-this chick is a fighter. She does something that made me literally say "Whoa!" out loud. That chick has balls. *fist bumps Jill* Eddie is kind of cool to have around in this series. I never really gave him much thought after(during) VA but it is interesting to have him around for this one. I actually really like the set up of him and Jill potentially having a romance. It has promise of a captivating one like Rose and Dimitri had but I think it will be more interesting to see this play out since we really are just outsiders to this and not have a first hand knowledge since we read VA through Rose's mind and eyes. I have high hopes for these two. I don't know how I feel about Sydney and Adrian maybe having a relationship. If they do then based off of knowing Sydney a little more, I don't think this one will have a happy ending like Eddie and Jill's will. I guess I will have to see since Richelle Mead has surprised me a couple of times. I don't really like the fact that Jill and Adrian are spirit bound now. It almost doesn't make sense but yet does? It is not the same as Lissa and Rose's bond. I can't really explain it but there are differences and I think that Richelle Mead maybe messed up somewhere. I hate it when authors change major things, such as this, but don't explain it to the reader. I am sooo excited that Richelle Mead brought Angeline from Last Sacrifice!! I loved this chick when I read her in the last book and could not stop saying "Yes!" when we got her back. While she does not have a big part in Bloodlines, she will most likely be one of the main characters in The Golden Lily(May 2012). I think this chick is awesome! If you read the last book then you know that she actually fought Rose AND LIVED. Hands down, I would not mess with her. *fist bumps Angeline* You do find out some secrets in this book like why Sydney is tied to Abe and what has been going on since Last Sacrifice ended. Like I said, I am not a huge Sydney lover but she really started to grow on me towards the end. I hated the fact that I figured out who the bad guys were in this story almost immediately but I liked that I was still surprised by what happens...especially at the end. You do get a Rose and Dimitri cameo which is awesome! *fist bumps Richelle Mead* I think overall that if you are truly a fan of Vampire Academy, then you will most likely like this series but as I am warning, it if different than the former. Hope I helped some folks out! : )

Before Randy Pausch, there's Morrie Schwartz. Mitch Albom was Morrie's student at Brandeis. Before his beloved professor passed away, he visited Morrie every Tuesday for three months, during which time Morrie would dispense all his wisdom - life lessons to Albom. While not exactly life's greatest lesson, most of Morrie's wisdom gives one a warm feeling, like the apple pie you had in your grandmother's house, topped off with the smell of her withering skin. Like the old days, Morrie is a dying breed, soon enough we'll forget there's once a world without iPods and Blackberries, a world where people can count on their own families and neighbors. As Morrie said, "..there is no foundation, no secure ground, upon which people may stand today if it isn't the family... If you don't have the support and love and caring and concern that you get from a family, you don't have much at all..." Of which he followed with a quote from Auden: "Love each other or perish." Albom divides each of his Tuesday visits into its own chapter, making it easier for readers to absorb each of Morrie's messages, all the while inserting Morrie's characters as the glue that ties up the entire book. If you need a pick-me-up after suffering a mild depression, this book may do for you, or it would depresses you more. I suppose, it's all depend on who reads it. It's as much about living as it is about dying gracefully. One thing that Morrie said caught me, "Everyone knows they're going to die.. but nobody believes it. If we did, we would do things differently." If you like Randy Pausch's, you'd surely find that this book would knock Randy's off your shelf pretty soon.
