My Very favourite Stephen King- nothing is scarier than getting lost in the woods.

Stars for the story more so than the way it was told. Good companion to the film, but watch the movie first.

really loved the auhtor's voice and the way he used an actual event to link all the characters together.

I loved every minute of this book. I had a hard time putting it down and it was the first thing I wanted to pick up in the evenings. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a little romance, mystery, and history. Definitely a "Goodread!"

I absolutely loved this book! It was such a fun read. The author was able to take a serious subject (the state of Europe during World War II) and deal with it in a way that was both sufficiently respectful and not too dreary. I thought all of the characters were quirky and fun, and the letter format was unique and interesting.

In my opinion, this book was the best of the trilogy. I love the way Hobb develops her characters. They feel very real to me.

A great search into the innate need to survive without any modern conveniences, intelligently pointing out how much work it is every day all day to survive. Also a great tragedy about an excentric mind that might have accomplished the impossible if not for a batch of unbeleivable bad luck.

Ever since her mother's death two years ago, twelve-year-old Ida Kate Deming has done all the housework for herself and her father on their Kansas homestead. The year is 1878, and life on the prairie is difficult, dangerous, and lonely. Ida Kate's father has decided the time has come for him to remarry. He puts an advertisement for a wife in an eastern newspaper, and a young widow, Caroline Fairchild, who has a one-year-old son, responds. Ida Kate is eager to have a mother and a brother, and her father is eager to once again have a wife. But all is not right with Caroline. Soon, Ida Kate begins to suspect that Caroline may not be Caroline at all, but someone else entirely different. But if "Caroline" is an impostor, what happened to the real Caroline? And are Ida Kate and her father in danger? Riddle of the Prairie Bride is another enjoyable read from the History Mysteries series. Readers who enjoyed other books in the series, or books from similar series such as the Dear America books, are sure to enjoy it.

i picked these up because one of my friends (NOA!) said they were better than harry potter... i'm going to have to go with different-but-equal, which is kind of a cop out. the story is smart and powerful, and, despite pullman's insistence to the contrary, carries a very strong political message. i re-read them all the time, and they never get old. they're more engaging and... oh, i guess mentally stimulating than most YA books. i've never gotten in to pullman's other series, but these are incredible.
