I stopped reading this book pretty early on. It seems like it was primarily written for 15-year-olds, which is, by no coincidence, how old I was when it was published. I'm sure that it was marketed to 15 year old me and some part of my brain put it down as, "You should probably read this book some day." But don't read it when you're 30 and more cynical than your 15 year old self. That said, stories of people standing up for what they believe in can be encouraging. What is less encouraging is the attitude that everybody who is not a Christian must be some terrorist, bent on destroying Christianity. Just because someone is a Muslim or a Communist doesn't make them anti-Christian. The "Us Vs. Them" attitude of this book turned me away early on. A delightful book. I read it after I saw the movie so I enjoyed them both.

This book gives you a new perspective and appreciation of what we consider trials and the ramifications of our actions in this life. It reminded me that what's important in life is to cherish the relationships I have and to ensure I don't heart anyone, and to appreciate any sacrifices I make for people and those that are made for me.

A semi-sequal to The Giver. Matty has a gift. He can heal things, although he hasn't told anyone. Changes are coming, though. The forest is dark, and people in the village are changing. They are going to close the village. Matty is sent to bring back the Seer's daughter, Kira.

loved it! If you read any of her books you need to read Something Borrowed first, then Something Blue and then you can read this one

I've considered Jim Elliot as a hero of the faith for as long as I can remember, but he falls seriously short in this book. Tell a girl you're in love with her and then leave her hanging while you head to the mission field? Please! If anything, I love the story because it helps me remember that God chooses to work through normal people in spite of their flaws. It also shows a serious and hard-fought lesson in patience.

A quick, quirky read about 16 yr old Cyd Charisse (NOT the movie star/dancer) trying to figure out what love is and where she fits within her two families. She is the secret love child of Frank- real dad whom she has met once and she has returned home to her "true" parents Sid and Nancy (NOT the rocker and his lover) after some trouble at an elite boarding school. Her best friend and confidant is her ragdoll Gingerbread which she is not prepared to give up, reagardless that everyone thinks she is "too old for dolls." Some poignant moments, fun characters and amusing pop culture references (including the 80's movie "Heathers"). My only criticism might be that some of the laguage felt a bit contrived; it seemed the author was channeling Francesca Lia Block via her Weetzie Bat series, with much less success. Here is a sampling; "My so called parents hate my boyfriend, Shrimp. I'm not sure they even believe he is my boyfriend. They take one look at his five-foot-five, surfer-shirt-wearin', baggy-jeans-slouchin', Pop Tart-eatin', spiked-hair-self and you can see confusion firebombs explodining in their heads, like they are thinking, Oh no, Cyd Charisse, that young man is not your homes. Dig this: He is." All in all, an intesting little YA book.
