I thought this book was a really good book. I finished it and it was amazing. Now I'm going to read the sequel, Catching Fire!

Not the most terrific memoir, but I give the writer credit for coming up with a brilliant blogging topic. I much prefer My Life in France by Julia Child, one of the best examples of Expat Writing ever written.

Each chapter of this book is told from a different character's point of view, and I loved getting those different perspectives. My particularly favorite chapters are written by Rae's dogs.

I much prefer Angels and Demons to The DaVinci Code. While I liked DaVinci- because I had a chance to read it when it was first published before it got so hyped up- Angels and Demons has always been my first choice.

Great journalism, fantastic for diversity of subject. He can't possibly be getting the kind of credit he deserves; don't hear him mentioned with the giants of the New Yorker as often as you think you would. The only problem with it is that there are so many pieces where you want the story to continue; that's the nature of this kind of anthology. Just makes you want to go get more of his books. Read this a little after reading John Jeremiah Sullivan's Pulphead - & that guy feels like a hybrid of McPhee & DFW (he leans a little heavier to cultural examination & a little less toward science and the natural world, but still).

There is a growing genre of novels set around psychological and psychiatric circumstances at the beginning of the era of mind discernment that contain a mix of real elements and real individuals as well as the driving force of the thriller...this is such a story...set in 1909 on the occasion of Sigmund Freud's only visit to America and the possibility that a sexual sadist-serial killer is at large and at work. The book is one of those marvelous examples of social history, historical who-dunnit and essay cum story assessment of psychological reasoning. It's fast paced, a neat portrait of New York and a not bad thriller

Loved it. It's not the greatest work in the world, but it's really entertaining.

This is a generally interesting book that will most likely be enjoyed by people with at least a basic background in Physics, but its attempts to make complex concepts understandable to the lay person don't always succeed. Sometimes the explanations are far too general, other times far too technical.
