Set in Paris in the 1920's. Joe Sandilands has just flown in to attend an early Interpol conference when he is called by the embassy to help a fellow Englishman arrested for murder. I liked this book but it moved slowly for me. This is number 8 in the series but the first for me so I'll give Joe another try in the near future.

I learned about the time period in this book, but it is not a feel good book. It did help me appreciate those who sacrificed to prepare the way for the restoration of the gospel. I had hoped for a happy ending and was very dissapointed, but I did glean insights from the characters.

I loved the "Passions for Danger" series - each and every book. However, "Red Heat" didn't appeal to me in the same powerful way as I anticipated. It was a fine read, well done as usual by this author but it didn't hold my attention and I found myself laying the book down for long intervals before picking it up again. I'm not giving up on the series, however, and will definitely read the next one.

Heard about 'the gospel' at a 'reuse' class I took. The book is counter culture and definitely wannabee nonfiction fiction. I enjoyed it enough to read the other two in the series. Vote for Larry and The Meaning of Life Larry. They weaken as you go.

I didn't go into this book looking for a war story and I'm not a fan in particular of that kind of reporting. But this book was one of the most entralling page-turners I've ever read (and reams better than the movie—don't even bother with the movie). The level of detail is down to the minute and from every possible perspective. If you ever wanted to know exactly what a botched military operation is like to live firsthand, read this book. I was completely sucked in from page one.
