i liked it in the beginning, but i think it fell apart towards the end. it kind of reminded me of A Visit From the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan (i think it's by her?) but then i think the Goon Squad was written much better than this book. not that this was a bad book, it was really well written, and i really feel theneed to get on a plane and go visit london and paris again, but it just wasn't my type

The format of the book is perhaps my favorite aspect of it: every nation -- no matter how large/small, populous/deserted, rich/poor, developed/struggling -- is profiled in the same manner with the same amount of information. To further accentuate this, nations are listed alphabetically, which also makes for easy reference when you're watching a NGC special and just have to know a little more about Reunion or Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (which I still maintain would be a great name for a band). The pictures are beautiful and for the most part, are not the typical sights you would expect to see and even if they are, they are photos from a different angle (St. Mark's square in the morning from the side grottos of the piazza, for example).

This book has the A-Z on basic philosophy and is a must read if you want a rough overview on the inner workings of mankind. It's really easy to read and turned out to be rather interesting actually.

A typical dystopian story, somewhat cliche in modern times, but surely less so at the time it was written. It is a good summary of Ayn Rand's philosophy and the failures of collectivism. Shows the path we are unknowingly headed down.

This was a cute, fun read. Janey Wilcox is frustrating, mildly endearing and fascinating. I would be interested in reading a sequel to this, it was perfect 'bus-reading' - light, refreshing and indulgent.

This book is a biography and an art journal/scrap book all rolled up in one. It is amazing in two senses -- the first is being able to read about an amazing woman who has lived a long and amazing life. The second is that the book itself is an amazing, beautiful, quirky and creative conglomeration of text and images. I'm glad to see picture books being created for big people! We like to look at pictures too!
