I was very skeptical that I would like the Twilight Series but (at the the total risk of embarrasing myself) I have to be honest and admit that I loved it! It was the perfect summer read and I am totally in love with Edward...so what that he's a vampire!! Individually, I give each book 4 stars...the writing isn't anything spectacular or profound, but I fell in love with the characters and was very entertained. Overall, I give the series five stars...it was just fun. Currently, I have moved on to watching (and re-watching) the movies.

I enjoyed Nafisi's Reading Lolita for the insider's look at Iran, if not for the literary critiques, so I was excited to see her come out with a memoir. I found this book interesting because she had a surprisingly weird home life growing up (or perhaps everyone does?) that really shaped who she became. I wish there had been a stronger focus on the Islamic Revolution and their war with Iraq. These were mostly just alluded to throughout instead of being focused on specifically. Overall I probably enjoyed it more than the average autobiography.

Answers great questions that I've always been stumped about, such as: why don't the oceans get saltier when sea water evaporates... Well written and inspires wonder. I felt excited about the sciences for the first time in quite a while. Written for the average joe, thankfully, and in a way that invites instead of closing doors.

I'm happy I read this. I liked some of it very much. To a spelling nerd, it was an interesting, easy read, pulling one along. Then it seemed to get sensationalistic and implausible--and usually I'm happy enough to suspend disbelief. The ending didn't work for me either; it didn't seem very enlightened--though I think it was supposed to.
