Billy Chaka, the hero of Tokyo Suckerpunch, is a man with every necessary skill to survive in a detective suspense novel. He is also, implausibly, a full-time reporter for a martial arts magazine that covers handicapped martial-arts events. By a serious of particularly unlikely coincidences, Billy Chaka ends up working for both a religious cult and the Japanese mob trying to find a geisha who may be immortal. There's also a murder mystery and way more than you wanted to know about handicapped martial arts in there. In short, this novel is unremittingly ridiculous, and not in a funny way. It is a conglomeration of every unfortunate stereotype about Japan (yakuza! geisha! secret corporate brothels!) and very little truth about Japan. Plus, the hero is a tourist in his own story. He seems to do nothing. It's very irritating.

I read to page 214 and decided it just wasn't worth it. It's a thriller and nothing was revealed on up to page 214 so forget it! So many books so little time.

Take that Southern Baptists! Not only does Rowling turn out the best Christ allusion in recent history, she leaves a world of characters that I will remember as friends for a good long time.

Cultivating Love by Addison Albright one of the most well put together homoerotic stories I have come across. There are real life issues of ignorance. Moments of love between the main two characters along with smoking sex scenes. This reviewer gives it three divas. 2 stars is generous. 1 star because I disagreed with just about everything he had to offer and 1 star because it was still an interesting read.

A life force especially is possibly one of the greatest graphic novels i've ever read. Will Eisner is a new idol of mine.
This book was not as good as some of Mr. Cook's others that I have read. It sort of dragged in the middle.

Finished this one again last night. Ranger is just starting to get interesting in this book. On to book 4, again.

Not really a novel--a series of very short mysteries told by an old man in a cafe to a young female reporter. The framing device was her listening to him recount the stories of and his deductions about infamous unsolved mysteries while he played with a string. He was supposed to be someone who annoyed her but that wasn't very convincing since neither character was developed well. Basically a series of puzzles, most of which depended on mistaken identity or hoaxes on the part of the criminal. Slightly interesting twist at the end with the old man's character but not that interesting overall and a slow read.

This is THE book about THE person who made New York City what it is today. Caro makes bond issuances, NYC agencies, and the Long Island Expressway utterly enthralling. Also, this is a good book to use to intimidate your fellow subway riders. I recommend chopping this mother in half, applying some ducttape. and reading it in two volumes, otherwise your arms are going to get sore trying to hold this thing in one hand and a subway pole in the other...
