Lenin was the one to put the gulag system in place, not Stalin.

The best most useful book on dreams and how to relate to them in a meaningful and useful way I have read. Am currently reading it for the second time after ten years. I feel old. --Caroline

My favorite book from last year, and I discovered it just before Atkinson's sequel ONE GOOD TURN came out, so could read them almost back to back. Case Studies starts out with seeming unrelated shocking incidents and memorable characters that gradually knit themselves together into a really intriguing British detective mystery/family drama. You'll like the main characters a lot, and be glad to pick up with some of them again in One Good Turn. That book seems to have more humor in it than the first and so is an even more fun read. I'm really glad to have discovered this author--haven't read her backlist yet...

I will re-read this book regularly - the very best I've seen on system thinking. A wonderful introduction.

I originally requested this book from the library because we were planning on hitting a few of the Little House sites on our summer road trip. We ended up changing our route, and the book came in after we got back, but I decided to read it anyway. I am so glad that I did! This is not a book for children, but rather for adults who were obsessed with the Little House books as children. I definitely qualify! I loved the writing style, both funny and poignant, and I enjoyed accompanying Wendy on her journey. The book contained solid research into the lives of Laura Ingalls Wilder and Rose Wilder Lane, as well as a look into the many ways they have touched people's lives through their writing. If Laura was a big part of your childhood, this is a must read.

An honest look at what organized reigion has done and is doing to the world. This book points out the inherent irrationality in believing and following the teachings in books written hundreds of years ago, whose "truths" have absolutely no proof.

I thoroughly enjoyed this second installment in Kathleen Dayus's autobiography, and fairly galloped through it. Katie's recreation of life among the poorest Birmingham people between 1913 and 1945 is both poignant and funny. The life lead by Katie and her family was unbelievably difficult, misery piled upon misery, yet there are some highly entertaining moments too. The stuggles Kathleen had to endure just to survive are incredible, even sacrificing her children to the Barnardo's home to give them all a chance. I was shocked by just how draconian and inflexible the Barnardo's people were, and how difficult it was for Kathleen to get help from the Parish relief. This is a must for anyone interested in the social history of England during this period, and certainly a fascinating read for all Brummies. I am now looking forward to reading the third installment.

This was a really enjoyable book. It was a historical book, but not really historical fiction so much (there were gaps that would have been filled in by the author if it had been like the Devil in the White City, but this one was very focused on being true to the historical record). That made it a little gappy at times, but it was still fascinating. It was not just about Brown himself, but it was also an interesting look at baseball in the 1910-ish time period - and of the culture at the time as well.

Burns is a good artist but the storyline of this...I couldn't follow it. Something to do with stoner teens, a weird STD, and a group of freaks who live in a forest.
Her türden yabancılaşmadan bahsediyor. Oku onu!
