This book disappointed me in some ways, though the story itself is enough to overcome many defects. I found that the writing plodded along in places, which made the book harder to read than I would have liked. But I was encouraged by various people to get into this book, and I did find the storyline very engaging. The fact that this was the first in a trilogy was part of my problem - I'm a bit trilogy-ed out. I will probably read on, though, to figure out how the story continues.

Wow--I completely forgot how much I liked this book! It was definately different. I believe that the author is from Iceland or the Netherlands or some foreign land I've never visited. So, the flow is affected by the translation. However--I couldn't put it down!

While a bit dated, it's a good primer. Joel Makower's "Strategies for the Green Economy" takes a similar set-up of explaining our past and the cynicism of consumers and puts the information in a more current context. Many companies have made forward strides in the decade since this Ottman's book came onto the scene. Kudos go to her for being one of the first to stand up and attempt to educate us.

Another Christie re-read - I first read it in 1976 under its US title, EASY TO KILL. The edition I've just finished reading is the Facsimile Edition published in 2010 by HarperCollins UK of the 1939 edition originally issued by Collins Crime Club. This is another one from Christie's "Golden Age," and is another excellent Christie portrayal of village life, peopled with some colorful and well-sketched village 'types.' Knowing 'whodunnit' did not at all detract from the pleasure of re-reading this book - I just paid a bit more attention to any details about or conversations with a certain character. There are some differences between the UK and US editions, possibly for the same reason differences arose between the UK and US editions of THE MOVING FINGER: the US text of MURDER IS EASY may reflect changes made for a pre-publication serialization - the first page and a half of the UK edition, for instance, are abbreviated to a mere opening paragraph in the US! Two of the characters undergo name changes: Lavinia Pinkerton, who sets the story in motion during a train conversation with Luke Fitzwilliam, becomes Lavinia Fullerton, (possibly to avoid confusing Americans with the famous Pinkerton Detective Agency?), and Lord Whitfield becomes Lord Easterfield for absolutely no reason that I

This was the best of the four books. More unpredictable than the other three.

** spoiler alert ** Warning: Flippant discussion of a triggery subject. Read at your own discretion. All in all, this was a lovely book. The writing style was clean and easy to follow, and both the historical and medical information was obviously well researched and presented convincingly. Perhaps best of all, I felt that almost every major character in both the historical and present day plotlines were fully developed and well rounded early on, which helped me buy into the increasingly erratic behaviors that came along as the regressions began to have more and more effect on both the protagonist and those around her. But I stuggled with something and have to take away one star merely for the fact that every single time I thought I had figured out which guy to cheer for, he turned into a rapey arsehole. And as I phrased it to my brother, "I don't mind a little rape showing up in books when it's historically accurate or significant to the plotline or whatall, but I though I was gonna be reading a historical-fantasy hybrid, not getting surprise sex my brain didn't know it wanted." You see, protagonist, generally when your ex-boyfriend decided to rape you, your response should really not be, "Dear me, how traumatizing. How fortunate that it was actually his alter-ego from a past-life regression and not really he who raped me, because I still love him." Actually, your response should probably be to CALL THE POLICE. In general, there was a severe lack of calling the police in appropriate situations...and this is coming from someone who watches Burn Notice and doesn't bat an eyelash when they pull U-turns on the freeway and no one calls Highway Patrol. But other than that little nugget jarring me out of the story, it was quite an enjoyable read.

I just love David Sedaris--on the radio. Or live. But I just can't seem to get into his books. I think it's because his voice, accent and cadence are missing.

Do yourself a favour and read this book - even if you are not a fan of Stephen King. This is one of his BEST novels and I would give it more than 5 stars.

Actually a lot better than I thought it was going to be. The butt plug that is a clone of the baby Jesus is only half the story; Its retarded toilet humor is only the icing on a surreal and paranoid cake.
