Do you know The Secret? I've heard about it for a long time. Knew there was a book and a DVD out there on it. I know people meet in groups to discuss it and watch it and do things related to it. And I had my suspicions about what The Secret was. But I wanted to read it. I was definitely interested. But I also don't like having an "opinion" on something that I don't know about. And that's what happens when things become mainstream and pierce the skin of pop culture. Everyone has an opinion on it. But those opinions are based on hearsay. To really have an opinion on something, you must be able to talk intelligently about that something. You need to have facts, and research, and data. So, I read The Secret. What's my opinion? See if you can tell. From a writer's/reader's standpoint I think this book is not at all well written. It's choppy. It's jumbled. It's repetitive. I found it difficult to stay with the flow of the book, because I felt there wasn't a smooth flow. However, I liked the book. I did. And I love the message. I really do. What is The Secret? Here it is in my nutshell: The Secret is how you manage your thought process, and what your allow your thought process to be. For example: "You cannot harm another with your thoughts, you only harm You. If you think thoughts of love, guess who receives the benefits - you!" (The "You" in the first sentence is capitalized because at the beginning of the book the author explains that when she does this, she is speaking directly and personally to the reader.) Out of the nutshell, the major point of the book is the law of attraction. The thought that what you put out there, you get back. The idea that if you only channel the good, that is all you will receive. The book actually tells you to think this, live it, feel it, breathe it, write it. "What do you really want? Sit down and write it out on a piece of paper. Write it in the present tense. You might begin by writing, 'I am so happy and grateful now that...' And then explain how you want your life to be, in every area." But The Secret is more than just visualizing what you want and it will be. The idea is to visualize what you want as already yours. And ours is not to know the how. "See the things that you want as already yours. Know that they will come to you at need. Then let them come. Don't fret and worry about them. Think of them as yours, as belonging to you, as already in your possession." But... "Most of us never allowed ourselves to want what we truly want, because we can't see how it's going to manifest... ... How it will happen, how the Universe will bring it to you, is not your concern or job." There isn't anything you have, can have or will have that you have not thought about first. "All that we are is the result of what we have thought." I liked The Secret. I believe in The Secret. The Secret has actually worked for me. But for it to work, I must work. It's not easy to train your thought processes. It's a conscious effort. That I will continue to make. If anyone's interested in reading The Secret, I have it to give away.
