This is real life! Very personal and true.

This book is great--it may seem creepy, and it is a bit, but very interesting. Especially having grown up in Seattle.

I direct. I directed this. It was a pretty overwhelming experience. Like the Atlantic Ocean is pretty wet.

Rollins writes many of his novels in the same fashion: group of scientists discover something, are attacked by creatures born of someone's worst nightmare, many scientists die horrible deaths, protagonist wins out against impossible odds, all is well. A curious distinction here is Rollins' inclusion of the idea that there are no "good" guys or "bad" guys. Just "greedy" guys. You don't want to be a greedy guy in one of these books. I read this while on the beach in the Dominican, and found it to be a terrific beach escape.

Part of me wants to rate this book lower, because, gay interest element notwithstanding, this is a book for dudes (comic books, come on), clearly written by a dude. These are qualities that usually cause me to dislike a book. But I'll be honest: this was, undeniably, a great, fun read, and so well done that it made me overcome all those aversions.

I wanted to give this book 4 stars, but there were a few annoyances that made me give it 3 stars. For the most part, I enjoyed this book, mostly because of the World War 2 setting (my favorite historical fiction time period). The short chapters that jumped from character to character sometimes left me confused and having to go back to refresh my mind. I would've done better with more pages per character before switching. Lots of time-travel 'drama' as in Doomsday Book, which gets a bit tiresome, and the abrupt ending is ridiculous. I would've liked it better if "Blackout" was a stand-alone with "All Clear" as a sequel, (or just one large book!) rather than just cutting off the story. I have "All Clear" on hold at the library, so hopefully I can finish this story in the next couple of weeks. And why is only one character worried about changing history? Any of them could! If someone time-travels and fills a job that a contemp would've taken, that could have an effect on major historical events! It means that the contemp might not meet their spouse and someone might not be born. So that drama went on a little too long, too. Oh well, I do intend to read "All Clear" as soon as it is available at the library.

I'm marking this as read, but I didn't finish it. It didn't catch my interest and dragged through minute details without much of a storyline.

Another typical John Grisham novel.
