I lived in Bozeman and part of the appeal of reading him was hearing the familiar names of rivers and ranges. He's style is a little forced for me. I feel sometimes he is pulling in words that yes may contextually fit, but are a stretch for the subject matter. On a book like this I'm usually underlining interesting information or ideas and I find I left very few in this book.

I had always thought of this as one of Christie's classics. I know I read this 20 or so years ago, but I didn't remember the plot at all when I came back to it. Reading it as an adult, I think the ending is rather telegraphed. It's the first one that I had a pretty solid idea of who did the murder well before Poirot's big reveal.

delightfully witty and clever. It was absolutley hilarious and I would recommend it to anyone who loves the Jane Austen books.

Nice. I really like how this expanded on the characters created and introduced in the mini-series, and added levels of imaginative atmosphere not possible with the funds available to the original creators! :) I love Gaiman's naming abilities -- he always seems to pick the best, most interesting names. With the possible exception of Anesthesia.

Another in the vein of Mysterious Benedict Society... meets X-men... meets Savvy... meets The Wizard of Oz. Kids who have special talents sure don't get a break. I liked this book. The first few chapters seemingly have very little to do with the rest of the book. The perspective skips around all over the place; sometimes we're focused solely on Piper McCloud (aka, the Girl Who Could Fly) while at other moments, we're focused on the supporting characters. Actually, at one point, Piper disappears for a good amount of time, and the author just glosses over that. I don't quite believe all of the motivations of the characters. Abnormal personal growth seems to go hand in hand with an abnormal skill set. The conclusion seemed hastily added on with fairy tale endings to many of the storylines. A lot was left unexplained, priming the audience for... a sequel? Of course. Uneven, but entertaining. Kids will like it, I think. I enjoyed reading, but after any kind of analysis, the gaping holes become bothersome.

Great book on tape. Tom and I "read" this as we drove to Nyack last week and were quite caught up in its rather odd story line. Way too violent for us, you'd think, and full of one more of those Biblical story lines, of a truth revealed, along with good guys gotten into trouble and rejected by organized crime fighting. Also full of love and distrust between parent and child and all the complexities that arise due to being torn from a parent at an early age. It was a bit far out, and way to violent, as I said, but definitely enjoyable as we pass the miles.

I enjoy Perlman's writing, but this book couldn't hold my attention.
