I love love loved this book. I was a little skeptical because it seemed like a guy adventure book but it is so much more. I won't say anything more so I don't spoil it. Just read it.

I first read this book about six years ago and I can definitely say I appreciate it more now that I've lived in the context of this region of the world. A bit long-winded at times (especially when describing the relationship between Hintza and Francois, but I like dogs so I can't complain too much) but otherwise the writing and story are both truly beautiful.

This book wasn't really what I expected, although I didn't know what exactly I expected it to be. Part science book, part philosophy, part theology, part paranormal. The theory presented by it is very compelling and definetly worth checking out.

I have enjoyed many of Jennifer Weiner's books and was excited to get my hands on Then Came You. While the novel started out strong, none of the stories climaxed. It seems as though the story dragged along bouncing into each character's present and past and then, running out of time, they were all thrown in to take care of a surrogate baby at the end. It almost felt like the story needed to be wrapped up because of length. I think Weiner's other works take much more care in cohesively building the characters from beginning to end.

I wish we had seen more of Luis and Nikki getting to know each other, rather than a purely physical connection between them. However, this will please fans of the first two books and it'll stand along nicely. It's a steamy, steamy romance with plenty of action and conflict.

While I found his examination and commentary enlightening, I found myself skeptical of a lot of his assumptions. I base this on the fact that, while he has a great deal of first-hand experience in the Middle East and Iran, he is not an accomplished or recognized scholar on the subject. Baer does paint a pretty complicated picture of Iranian foreign policy and modus operandi. Something tells me that it's even _MORE_ complicated than he has boiled it down in 260 pgs. In short, his recommendation is that the US make some sort of peace with Iran. Given the alternatives, this seems like the best solution. However, until we change the way we treat Israel (like they can do no wrong), Iran is going to be difficult to work with. Hillary's got her work cut out for her. I gave it 3 stars b/c it was educational for me; sort-of an Intro to Iranian Political and Foreign Affairs and Western Responses. But, it's editorialized, as you would expect. I really liked his CIA book which had more of a narrative to it. He should really stick with memoirs.
