published in 1985, read it in late 80's or possible 1990's. Liked it.

I approached this book armed with a long-nagging suspicion that Freud was the greatest fraud of the 20th century and hoped this would be a book that clearly laid out the complete case for "Freud the fraud" that a layperson could understand. Unfortunately, it wasn't, as the book appears to me to be aimed at an academic audience. It's largely comprised of pieces previously published in academic journals on discreet topics - as opposed to giving an A-Z, point-by-point examination of theories A through Z and how they may have been wrong. The author does have a very good sense of humor and seems amply armed with enough ammunition to write that book. If he wrote it, I'd definitely buy it. Nevertheless, several of the essays are very entertaining, in particular the case of Anna O., an essay on Freud's love of dogs, and an essay on the bizarre infatuation with figure skating of Freud's biographer Ernest Jones. Overall, Freud himself comes off as a paranoid narcissist, a skilled and practiced liar, a man whose driving ambition demolished any sense of ethics, an individual too infatuated with himself to bother with anything approaching the scientific method, and a generally repugnant character bordering on the delusional. In short, what I suspected going in.

My favorite book. All of his fiction in an excellent translation.

This book was amazing. When I first saw it, I thought it would take forever to read. It was over 800 pages in size 10 font, about as thick as it was wide. I read it in about 5 days. I love the characters, the story and the adventure. This book is truly enjoyable.

Originally on From Book to Hooked. The Body Finder was an amazing book! It has a really unique idea, and Kimberly Derting has created quite the world for us. The romance between Jay and Violet is breathtaking, and the suspense kept me reading until a pretty late hour, so I'd recommend checking this book out if you haven't already. Violet has a morbid ability to sense the echoes left behind by the dead, and the imprint attached to their killers. When a serial killer sets his sights on the town, Violet feels she might be able to put her ability to good use and stop him. With the help of her best friend, Jay, who she's falling in love with, Violet might be getting closer to discovering the serial killer. Only problem? Now he has his sights set on her. The murder mystery aspect of this book was really well done. I've always loved those murder mystery TV shows, and this is even better. Know why? Not only does Kimberly Derting incorporate murder mystery, but there's a paranormal aspect and a romance. This series is in my top ten. I liked Violet as a character. I think she dealt with her ability really well, and that's got to be a creepy thing to live with. She also had a brain. *pleased* She did make a few bad choices, but that happens to the best of us. Overall, she was a strong, smart, relatable character. Jay was... Well, Jay was Jay. And I liked Jay. He was protective of Violet, which was really sweet. I absolutely loved the dialouge between Violet and Jay. Their relationship was very realistic and filled with flirting and tension. *insert more fangirly gushing here* The writing, characters, and plot Derting created are amazing as is this story. I can't wait to read the next in the series, and even though I don't need to say this, I'm hooked!

Great story (I heard better than the movie) and excellent job on describing schizophrenia and LA's skid row. Moving account on the frustrations of working with a person with mental illness and the hopeful progress and frustrating setbacks. Best part of book is Lopez's ruminations about life on the streets: despite the mental illness, is Nathaniel really freer than those of us with our stuff, mortgage, dependents, running the rat race?! Check out 2009 60 Minutes interview of both and talk about the book. 12/2008 info with Lopez narrating and showing Ayers playing violin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7ovt3...
